  • Getting a new PC 7424 XP Dual Action Polisher

So I have my mind set on getting this DA from ADS. I am also getting 105/205. I have a few questions first before buying since this will be my first DA.

    1) I have swirlX, scratchX 2.0, and Ultimate Compound. My question is if these are safe to use with this polisher and if so which pads. Do meguiars pads fit on this polisher? I only ask because it comes with a free Lake Country pad.

    2) Would cleaning my pad "on the fly" make it safe to use another product on that same pad and not cause me problems?

Thank you for your patience and the help.

    1. Yes, you can use those products with a DA, SwirlX and Ultimate Compound for sure, I believe ScratchX as well.. As for the pads, it depends on which brand pads you plan to get. As for Meguiar's pads fitting on that polisher, it all depends on the backing plate -- I'm not too sure about which size backing plate comes with the new XP so hold up till someone else answers that one.

    2. And no, I wouldn't suggest it. Cleaning on the fly does not fully clean the pad so there will DEFINITELY be cross contamination if you add another product to it.

Pretty much just as clutch said already...

Those products can all be used with a DA..although swirl X was intended for use by hand, it is safe to use on the DA...cleaning your pad on the fly only cleans remove paint from the surface (if your cleaning) and excess product, dried up product, dust, product that was absorbed into the foam,etc...its a very effective way of cleaning the pad for optimum results, but it will not stop cross contamination..the only way to do that is to wash the pad and then use another product..you are going to have to get seperate pads for each different product..either that or wash and dry your pad in between using different products (which i cant see anyone doing)

okay so im ordering the PC 7424 this week along with M105/M205 since I have seen such great results with that combo. This package that I am buying from ADS comes with one free pad.

I plan on getting the orange Lake Country pad to use with M105 and then getting a white Lake Country pad to use with M205. I have read other threads of people using these pads with these products. I hope this is correct. Any help with my purchase will be great since I am new to all this. Thanks

I believe scratch x 2.0 is the one to be used by hand and swirl x can be used by DA or hand.

                Hi.

Use one pad for each product. Most of us, at least I do, mark the back of the pad with the product we are using it for. For example only use one pad for M105 and mark the back of the pad. Yes polishing pads for compounds and polishes and finishing pads for applying waxes and sealants.

One polishing pad and one finishing pad are not enough. If you're going to detail an entire vehicle, even when cleaning your pad on the fly, it will be beneficial to switch to a fresh pad at least once, if not more frequently, during the project. Same goes with a less aggressive pad used with a less aggressive polish, such as M205. Meaning if you're going to do the whole car with M105 and M205 (or Ultimate Compound and SwirlX) you should minimally have two of each pad. Three or four of each would be better still. Figure that you'll also want a fresh finishing pad for your wax application, although you can easily wax an entire full sized vehicle with a single finishing pad.

And don't forget microfiber towels in your order. There is no such thing as having too many microfiber towels!
