  • PC 7424 Issues - HELP!!!

I've had my PC 7424 for a year or so now and have never had a problem. Yesterday I was mid detail and it started to slow down, then it just stopped. I took it apart to see what the issue was, but could not figure it out. I put it back together and it started to work again. I thought, cool maybe it was a fluke. No. I finished my project and thought nothing of it. Today I started another project and it completely died halfway through. I opened the back of it again and turned it on, kind of. It was sparking big time on the inside. My ultimate question is this - does anyone know who can repair these and/or has anyone had this issue before? Mine is the Ultimate Detailing Machine (PC 7424). I tried going to their warranty site listed in the manual, but it looks like their site is under construction or down. Please help!

Sometimes your local Ace Hardware does hand held machines. You could also check the internet for a local place.

How much use have you got out of it before it went out? How was it stored (did you ever have the cable wound tightly?).

Using it for a year with 10-15 hours of use a week is different than using it for a year with 10-15 hours of use a month.

      Just curious.

        Go to deltaportercable.com

About halfway down on the right side of the site page, there's a link to Find a Service Center. Be sure to select Porter Cable from the drop down list and enter your zip to locate an authorized Porter Cable repair facility near you.

How do the brushes look? Some sparking is normal. Check out the diagram and parts list. If the brushes look good, then it could be a bad switch, that can be tested with an ohm meter. You may have an open in the power cord, which can also be tested with an ohm meter.

I have been using pretty consistently. Probably around 10-12 hours per weekend mostly during the spring and summer. I've had it for over a year now. It was always stored properly and the cord was never wound tightly.
