  • How to clean Soft Buff 2.0 pads

I currently have three Soft Buff 2.0 pads (2 polishing & 1 finishing). Now, I know the 2.0 pads are MACHINE WASHABLE. Here's how I clean my pads:

    1. Tap-out any dry cleaners/polishes/waxes from the pad
    2. Use APC+ (1:10) on the face of the buffing pads.
    3. Let APC+ sit on the pad for a minute or so.
    4. Work APC+ on the face of the pad.
    5. Rinse off the pads with clean water.
    6. Squeeze-off excess water, carefully.
    7. Let it hang dry.

Am I doing this right? I wanted to prolong the life of my buffing pads. I also heard about using a soft TOOTHBRUSH or a nylon brush. Are these safe to use on this pads? If so, what's the proper way of using these brushes to clean my pads? Thanks guys!

I throw all my pads in the wash.... "2.0" or not. I have some LC pads as well and do this. I never had any issue to be honest with them falling apart or anything... Sometimes I will hand wash and just let them dry but normally just go into washing machine...

Here at Meguiar's Garage we just throw the pads in the washer and dryer. We've got pads that have gone through literally dozens of wash/dry cycles and they're still perfectly fine.

Meguiar's should make t-shirt out of them

Even my work shirts are only advertised a 50 wash t-shirt.

I am another one that uses the washer and dryer to clean them. Never had a problem on the original,or 2.0 pads.

I just spray the surface with APC and water, then I work it in until its foamy, then rinse and dry.

What settings do you guys set the washer/dryer on to wash/dry them? And with what/how much detergent?

I've always been a bit nervous to throw mine in the machines, so I wash them by hand like the original post describes.

Won't that form a "RING" on my washer? For, drying process, what settings?

The laundry detergent does a great job of breaking down paint cleaners, polishes and waxes/sealants so we've never really had an issue with the wash process leaving a ring in the washing machine. Believe me, I'd hear about it at home if it did!! We wash and rinse warm, on a double rinse cycle, and then dry at moderate temp.

With the original Soft Buff pads repeated washings can start to break down the adhesive that holds the velcro backer onto the pad and these can separate. On the Soft Buff 2.0 pads the backer is laminated to the foam so they can withstand repeated washings without issue.

That's great, Mike! I was scared that if I use the washer and dryer that it might change the shape of the pads, and even remove the "velcro" part of the pads.

Re: How to clean Soft Buff 2.0 pads

i just washed my pads with dawn dishwashing detergent, rinsed and sat them spaced out vertically to drain any leftover water to the bottom of the towel theyre standing on.

next time i'll lay them flat to keep them FLAT. standing them up to dry sounds like a good idea, but if they dry too fast, it could leave a dent on an outer edge.

i'll try the washing machine next.
