  • Problems with PC DA...help pls

I'm having a problem with my second polisher - same problem as the first. The motor gets really hot and starts smoking. My last one stopped working. They both did it after 2 or so section passes...I'm working on speed 5 and applying enough pressure so that the polisher rotates say 2-3 times per second..I'm also hearing a clicking sound while polishing, is this the clutch? Could it be the extension cord I'm using? It's pretty heavy gauge...

I've got my method down, but due to the polisher burning up, I can't finish polishing my vehicle. Any help is greatly appreciated.

At first glance, I ain't gotta clue. But I'll ask some questions.

Which model do you have? How long of an extension cord and what guage (should be marked on the insulation). Are you using the same outlet as you used when #1 burned up? I'm really thinking it may be a bad outlet...ie, wired wrong. Do have on of those little 'outlet checkers'? If not, they are VERY inexpensive at Home Depot etc.

As for the 'clicking' noise, to be honest if mine does I don't hear it. Just sounds like a big p'd off hornet.

Keep us posted on what ya come up with.

Do u have the little washer on between the head unit and the backing plate? If not that will burn it up.

What purpose does the washer serve to prevent tool burn up?

Not sure. Just remember the junk mans video saying to make sure and use it or youll burn it up. And not to use a smaller extension cord when using will burn it as well.

Keep your cord as short as possible. In all wire there is resistance, if you are doing some heavy duty polishing and tool feels warm that adds to resistance. Resistance goes up VOLTAGE drops down and heat will start. The higher the heat (resistance) the higher the current (amparage) the LOWER the voltage and it continues in that direction until something gives. Are you sure you have 110-120V at the outlet?
