  • Help me update my products!

I just finished my truck and didn't get the results I had hoped for =[

I need help getting 'up to date' on my meg's products.

I used an LC Orange pad with M83, polishing pad w/ M9 and then an LC Blue pad with M3.
Finished off with meg's finishing pad and Collinite 845.

Paint is clean and color/reflection are excellent, but the M83 didn't touch the fine scratches or light swirl marks.

I went over my test area 5 times to make sure it wasn't just technique that was causing the flaws to remain.

I think I need to upgrade my supplies, M83 is too outdated and can't perform like the newer polishes.

    What SHOULD I be using?

Re: Help me update my products!

First off, we've moved this thread to "The Dual Action Polisher" and out of "Meguiar's 2012 New Products Reviews" since this isn't a review of a new product.

That said, we'd suggest you give Ultimate Compound a shot. Yes, it's a consumer product while the M83 you've been using is a Mirror Glaze pro product, but UC is derived from M105 and offers a good deal more cut than M83. It also won't dust as much as M83 can, and certainly not as much as M105 will on a DA. Plus you can pick it up at almost every local auto parts store.

+1 on what Mike said. A lot of people overlook UC/UP because its an over the shelf product and not a pro product. Most of the time you can get the 90% of what the pro products offer but much more usabilty. Me?... I love the UC/UP combo and rarely use the M105/M205.

        Thanks for the quick replies.

Will I get any haze from the UC?
Which pad do you suggest for each of these?

I have the Yellow cutting pad from LC but I have always been afraid to use it on my truck!

        Thanks!

Re: Help me update my products!

It's rare that we see any hazing from UC unless the paint is very delicate. With our yellow polishing pad (W8207) it's very common to be able to go straight to wax after removing defects. We'd start with a pad that's a bit less aggressive than the LC yellow cutting pad, at least to start.

Like Michael said above, start with a more 'gentle' pad than the yellow. Do you have LC white? I'd start there.

The UC/UP combo is nothing to sneeze at.

            Remember, least agressive first.

I do have a white pad, Thanks for the advise!

I will give that a go and let you know what I learn.
