  • What next?

I have a black Caddy with some water etching on the hood.
I have used M105/W8207 with a DA on 5. The etching does not come out. All other defects were removed and the surface is smooth I can not feel the water spots. I would like to know what my next step would be to remove the etching.
Can I do anymore with a DA or do I need to use a Flex? T
    Thanks

    Re: What next?

Usually it is best to check technique and such first.

How big of an area were you working? Pressure? Applications?

Post some pictures if you have the access to. I'm sure that would help everyone have a really clear idea of how to treat your car.

I worked a small area 1'x2'. Medium pressure for thefirst 3-4 passes then finish up lighter speed was 5. I did this 3 times. I will see ifI can get a good pic.

Sometimes etching is just too deep for removal and better leave it alone. If you must remove it, get a cutting spot pad and heavy pressure on etching area.

            Re: What next?

Try using enough pressure to stop the pad from rotating, then ease up just enough to gain some spin. Move the pad slowly over the area, checking for heat with the palm of your hand regularly. A bit warm is fine, but hot is a bad thing - check it frequently!!!! Increasing the pressure will make a big difference in cut, so do this first before buying anything else. But as Wukin2k2 points out, some water spots can etch so deeply that they're darn near impossible to remove without some wet sanding and rotary buffing. But that's a very advanced process so we are NOT recommending you do it unless you've very experienced in the process.

You can put a sharpie mark on your pad to help see the movement.

Thanks for the help and marker tip. I could not get everything out but the results are much better now. I can live with what is left now. If I feel the need to have them removed completely I will take it to a shop. Again thanks for the help.
