  • Anybody Have any exp. polishing bicycle frames?

Okay, I've painted my latest bicycle frame using Roth Rattle Bomb products. Started with a heavy base coat, color sanded it. shot the metal flakes and kandy, color sanded that. Then shot my clear (2k high gloss clear) and lo and behold, I was too close and I've got som obvious sags in the clear. I know that this isn't the end of world, but I'm afraid to fix the problem. I don't own a variable speed buffer so I can't really cut & buff. My question is how practical is it to cut & buff by hand? I know we're talking about a lot of massaging, but I'd almost prefer that to having to buy a tool I may never use again. Any advice would be great!

Round tube or oval? I'll let others chime in and a pic would help, but I would think sanding the sag and topping with more clear would be the ticket. Even a 3" pad moved fluidly around the tube will have trouble not heating up the paint at the vertex of where you're buffing--I'd probably avoid machine polishing. The other thing I'd try to remove sanding marks by hand would be panty hose with 105 rubbed around the tube like the old shoe shine guys. You can back down to 205 and microfiber cloths for the final polish.

I have a Troy Lee painted Yeti that I have only ever worked by hand--again I'm afraid of machine polishing on a round tube like that.
