Hi! Welcome to Meguiar's Online. I have moved your post into your own new thread, & re-titled. Have you checked out our "5 Step Paint Care Cycle" Thread? This would be a great place to start for general info on which products to use & when.

Meguiar's 5 Step Paint Care Cycle

When working by hand, most of the time we prefer using a soft foam applicator pad like our Meguiar's W0004 Soft Foam Applicator Pad (for applying). For removal of product residue such as a compound, polish, or wax, a microfiber towel is recommended, like our X2020 Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel.

Feel free to post further questions & we can continue the discussion within this thread.

From my exp, a scratch is very difficult to remove by hand with Ultimate Compound. It is much better to combine with a DA Polisher, otherwise, I sometimes just feel waste of time.

I would agree, depending on how resilient the clear coat is, and how severe the scratches are, it can be much more challenging & time consuming of a task by hand.
