Help with oil slick after clay bar cleaning, compound, polish & wax

Hi,

I got oil slick my front panel after trying to do 5 steps paint care circle. All done by hand.

• Wash by Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax
• Clean above-surface by Ultimate Claybar Kit
• Correct below-surface by Ultimate Compound (on demand area)
• Polish by Ultimate Polish
• Wax by Ultimate Wax (Apply 2 passes)

When I worked under my apartment parking, there was only artificial light, so it didn't show up. But when I parked the car under the sun, I could see a lot. It was only showed up if I look direct, but it didn't show up when looking asquint.

I couldn't wipe it off by a microfibre cloth. As I figured out it after doing full steps, I didn't aware which product cause this issue.

Does anyone know what cause it and how to fix this one? Please help, thanks!

Are you saying light and dark spots on the paint? If so the ULW does it every time for me too on dark colors. I use ULW only on light colors because of it. Tried everything, its always there after ULW on dark colors

Thanks for your share. Really? if it is true, seems like a wax defect. I understand ULW can't leave a dark shine like GGLW, but shouldn't leave that spots on my paint.

looks like either a paint defect or the very early stages of cc failure.

Well, that could be a permanent issue. Although my car is already 8 years old, it's paint is still shine. As these spots are not easy to detect, I don't feel it looking like a CC failure. But, I'm still wondering if I should stop using Ultimate Compound & Polish on my car paint. If my paint clear coat is already thin, can Ultimate Compound or Polish damage it? Or might I apply too much wax than necessary? Quite confused now.

How long ago did you apply stuff? For me, the Ult Wax can leave some residue as well, but usually gone in a couple days, or after next wash/rain.

It is a bit hard to say if it is clear coat failing or the wax smudging...

Using Ult Compound as needed, and the Polish/Wax regularly will be safe for the paint, assuming you are applying them in a normal manner, good cloths/pads, etc.

If it does end up being failure, just want to keep it polished/waxed gently as much as possible until you feel like dealing with paint. But hopefully just a smudge.

Finally, I figured out it was wax smudging. After I tried to wash & strip all the wax on the panel, they were gone. I think I put too much wax and couldn't buff off all of them. Thanks everyone for supporting me

Happy to hear you were to able to remedy. It looked like simple product residue to me also, which typically can be easily removed by re-applying or in your case a wash.

I get those spots cleared away with m34 Final Inspection. A quick mist and wipe.

I haven't tried yet, but I think Quick Detail might help to remove them. During my work, I found the Ultimate Polish was really difficult to totally buff off the hazy residue, hence, I had to use Quick Detail to wipe them off before applying wax.

I haven't tried yet, but I think Quick Detail might help to remove them. During my work, I found the Ultimate Polish was really difficult to totally buff off the hazy residue, hence, I had to use Quick Detail to wipe them off before applying wax.

I've been a huge fan of ultimate Polish for years. But my latest stock, yeah, my usual tricks for easy wipe off aren't working. Hopefully the next batch will be back to how it was in 2015-ish. It would still form build up spots, but monitoring the amount of polish I used, shaking vigorously before use, and buffing over the build ups isn't working.

Over time, I'm afraid the more thin in paint the more I have to rely on polish to make it gloss again, otherwise, the paint can be faded under the sun sooner.

To give you an idea, even some of our most aggressive compounds, applied with a dual action polisher machine, on a cutting pad, most of the time is not even measurable, as far as the amount of paint you are removing. You are totally fine to apply polish by hand ever quarter. If you were using a compound ever quarter, that would be a different story. The idea is to use a compound as needed, and then maintain properly from there. Most people use a polish prior to wax ever other, or even once a year in addition to their protection, it's a matter of preference & how well the vehicle is maintained, where it is stored, daily driver etc.
