  • High Markup- Canadian Distributor

    Hi

I became a member on here just so I could express the opinion that your Canadian distributor charges exorbitant mark ups on some of your products. An example would be those polishing pads that you sell on your U.S website in a set of 3 for around 30$ USD. On the Canadian site they charge over 30$CND for each pad. Even something like the bonnets which I think the price they are charging is more reasonable is still over 12$ CAD versus 6$ USD. I have been a loyal Meguiars customer for years but your distributor is forcing me to purchase some of your products directly from the U.S since their prices are not what I consider competitive with their parent company.

I contacted your Canadian distributor on numberous occassions to find a supplier of those polishing pads and no one returned my phone calls. They offer poor customer service to boot (which I dont' think represents the Meguiars name very well, as I have called up your U.S line on more then one occasion and they have been a great help!!) Other then that you guys have some great products!!!

yeah that's the thing we shouldn't have to drive down to the states just because we feel we're getting gouged. I fully expect to pay a slighly higher price in Canada but nearly a 300% retail mark up on some of the products is unreal.

        Hi eltonr,

        Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I have no idea why our Canadian prices are so high. I know it cost quite a bit to ship products over the border because there are fees, taxes and duties to pay, perhaps this is the reason for some of the increases?

Your distributor won't have to pay any duty or taxes on your product, since I'm guessing most of your products are made in the U.S. As for fees there may be brokerage fees but that would likely only make up a small amount of the cost since I'm guessing they import their products in large quanities. I think the real reason is more obvious. They choose not to make any effort to grow their market share and would rather make their profit off the few gullable that would pay their inflated price.

            Guys!
I just found out this thead..Tell me about the price!!!!
The pad sold in BKK,THailand is around 40$ a piece Arrrg... NXT spray wax after discount costs almost 35$...That's why it's hard to swallow knowing that in the US, it costs only 6$ for an NXT Spray (6$ right?).
It's a real issue here in BKK where people love the products but they just can buy them.......

BTW I love Meguair's too..that's why I order it from the internet and have them shipped here..EVEN cheaper!!!

Hope Meguiar's is resolving this price issue ASAP so loyal customers around the world can enjoy your magnificent products...

            Cheers!

I was wondering if you had tried out Canadian Tire yet? Although my opinion is naturally biased (I work for them), I'm always interested in hearing about issues here in the Great White North. The liquid nxt wax is presently on our shelves and there will likely be additional nxt products next spring. And none of them will be close to $37 ( Assuming the bottom doesn't completely drop out of the Canadian dollar).

currently some canadian tire stores sell nxt wax for 29.95. The problem is they only carry 2-3 items all of which are a bit antiquated. The issue here is that Meguiars Canada charges quite a bit more for the same items our American friends use.

Meguairs Canada does not market the same way as the U.S we have a much smaller marktet and therefore they don't get the great bulk discounts, not to mention the exchange rate hasn't been the best, so the consumer is the one that gets it in the end(literally).

My problem is the fact that I cannot get Items from the US site. I have spoken to my Meguairs rep and he can't have items shipped here like the bucket organizers. No one seems to want to address the fact that shipping and bilingual labeling BS is holding the Canadian market back....How is NAFTA supposed to be benificial to us??
