Meguiar's Car Care 201
Saturday March 10, 2012
Our first Advanced Class of the year, and it was a big success!
After going through the classroom portion of the program, it was out to the garage for a live demo before turning everyone loose with the power tools!
Our demo deals with damp sanding using our Unigrit Sanding and Finishing Discs, starting with 1500 grit and finishing with 3000 grit. We then remove the sanding marks with M105 and a wool pad via rotary buffer, then refine the finish with M205 on a foam finishing pad. Of course we play around a bit, showing how quickly heat can be generated (we quickly exceeded 200 degrees F with a foam cutting pad at 1800 rpm!!!) and what can go wrong if you aren't paying attention to what you're doing.
Feel the smoothness of the sanded panel!!
After refining with 3000 grit (the gloss was actually starting to come back after that step!) we're ready to move on to the rotary buffer, some M105 and a wool pad.
Time for the students to start sanding and buffing.
That white foam is actually the clear coat coming up!
Three stations set up for the students to work at.
Keeping a watchful eye on the competition, perhaps?
After sanding, refining the sanding marks, compounding to remove the sanding marks and then finish polishing to really make things pop. Hey, you'd be smiling, too, if you'd just done this for the first time! And, yes, this is a reflection in the paint.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made this another great Saturday!
