It is when you refer someone to the site and they register, there is a place where they write who referred them to the site (if applicable).
So say you recommended your friend to MOL, and they decided to become a member, part of the registration page would be a place to tell that you referred them to the site, which in turn gives you a referral.Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway.
