  • NXT Wax vs "Others"

People who use and talk about Zaino polish often point out that the more coats of Zaino they use the better. Better is defined as a deeper shine and an increased ability for Zaino to hide surface imperfections.

With most wax and regardless of the number of coats applied, applied wax does not get any thicker. A new coat re-emulsifies the prior applied coat. As I understand it the new coat becomes "one" with the prior coat. When the wax dries and you buff off the dried residue and what remains is a single coat of wax that is no thicker than any other single coat of wax.

My question is "does Meguiars NXT Wax allow you to build up coats and thickness? If so, does it remain as clear and smooth? Does it therefore offer any surface protection for the paint?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to MOL!

The majority of the time I apply 2 coats of NXT and IMO 2 coats of NXT is better than one, I would guess 2 coats of any product would give better results possibly giving a more even look. NXT seems to leave a deeper looking shine with 2 coats, I apply the second 12+ hours after the first. Anything over 2 coats IMO isn't necessary.

When I here someone say "...there is 31 coats of product X on my vehicle", I just kind of chuckle. The environment is going to be constantly eating away at the product you have applied to protect your paint. Someone applies 2 coats of any wax/sealant then a couple months later applies 2 more coats, sure its going to look better the previous application, the product has lost some of its ability to protect from the elements and lost some of its look. Even if you applied all coats at the same time I would guess there is a point where you are not really doing much of anything other than wasting product.

Now, if there were 31 coats of products on ones vehicle, would it be an easily visible thick bubble of product around your vehicles finish, thinner in the hard to reach spots?

      Hi hiznhrz,

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

So far, I read a lot of what people talk about, but so far, I've never seen nor heard of anyone proving they can really increase the thickness of Zaino on paint.

I mean, if it's true, you would think after a couple of years after reading about all these guys with 30, 60, 90 and more layers of Zaino, we would have seen some pictures actually proving a build-up...

So far... it's just talk... no proof...

I wrote something on page two of this thread,

Discussion on Meguiar's Classic, Gold Class, NXT, Ultimate, and Hybrid Ceramic Product Lines

Read through the thread until you get to my post on page two and look for the word... plateau

I'll be mostly offline until Monday as I'm at the Barrett-Jackson Auction, just an FYI...
