Hello from Georgia (black car needs HELP!!)

I'm looking forward to receiving help from the experts here.

I have a black GS350 less than a year old. Just can't seem to get the fine scratches and swirls out of it. Here is what I have tried so far.

1. Meguiar's Swirl Remover #9 using a PC on #5 speed with white foam pad
2. Meguiar's NXT 2.0 using PC with black foam pad

I can't wait to get this car looking like a black mirror. Thanks for all your help and recommendations.

Whose foam pads are you using?

Regardless, what you want is a polishing foam pad like our W-8006 Polishing Pad and since M09 isn't removing the swirls then you need something more aggressive. (Unless you're not using good technique, that's the factor we never have any control over).

You could try one of the below,

M80 Speed Glaze
ColorX
M66 Quik Detailer which is not a quick detailer but a strong cleaner/wax

Welcome to MOL.

#80 is my goto polish too, but, you are in Georga and the pollen season is just starting. No matter what you do, your black paint it will look yellow-green an hour. Fortunately the pollen season short but it is followed by the love bug season.

Don't know if you have ever seen a close-up of a pollen grain but it is scary. It looks like it would cause instant swirls.



I try to keep these things under control with lots of gentle washing and great care with UQD and a MF towel.

That pic of pollen says it all.

I got most of the swirls out using Meguiar’s Swirl remover #9. Following that, I used a black foam pad and applied NXT 2.0. As a last step I hand applied two separate coats of P21S carnauba paste wax.

I had the garage door open the other day and pollen got all over the car. I took a micro fiber towel and very gently dusted the car off. Today I backed the car out and noticed very fine swirl marks in the direct sunlight. I was certain that two coats of carnauba wax would at least protect the paint from a light dusting with a micro fiber towel. Apparently I was wrong.

We still have a serious drought condition here in Georgia. Washing your car (at home) is still prohibited. I will not take it to a commercial car wash.

I'm no pro but I did work on a friend's black 1999 GS rescently. This one had been neglected and the heavier scratches are beyond the reaches of my DA polisher. However, the #83 and #80 worked wonders on all of the finer scratches. That was back in December. I saw it a couple weeks ago on a rainy day and the #21 is still beading like crazy.

That is a hell of a paint job. Even the deeper scratches were not through the paint.
