Hey guys,
About 25 years ago (the last time), I used to love to polish and wax vehicles with Meguiars products. Now, I find myself starting a 'project' for the main purpose of open heart surgery rehabilitation / exercise. "Slow & easy" is the name of the game now and I'm having great fun watching my 'project' transform.
Recently, I acquired a 91 Dodge Spirit from an aunt who had to give up driving. She had it painted (clearcoat) 5 years ago and it hasn't been touched since. The clearcoat had failed. It has a perfect interior and body.
It has been in the garage for 2 weeks now, after a thorough wash job and I have done the following work so far:
-spent several hours on several days reading the forums here
-Clayed the entire body (dark metallic blue paint)
-cleaned tires and hubcaps with All Wheel & Hot Shine
-cleaned all exterior rubber/plastic trims w/ Trim Detailer
-applied ScratchX to the horizontal surfaces 4 times (by hand)
-applied Deep Crystal Polish (liquid) to horizontal surfaces
-applied 2 coats of NXT wax (liquid) to horizontal surfaces
-cleaned headlights with ScratchX (like new again)
It isn't like I'm in a hurry to get finished. This is enjoyable therapy for me. If I could rub harder, perhaps 3 applications of ScratchX instead of 4 would have been OK <grin>.
Today, I'll begin on the verticals. Well, one panel, anyway. Had to get another tube of ScratchX too. The verticals look much better to begin with <shucks>.
I must say, sometimes, the results I see just amaze me and nearly take my breath away. Hope I'm not ashamed to drive this Dodge when it's complete!
