  • Newbie, bought The Power Kit for the 996TT

    Hello to all,
I just recently purchased the Power Kit which comes with the G110 Dual Action Polisher, 2 soft buff polishing pads and one soft buff finish pad.
    Oh, and a microfiber towel.

I also purchased the ultra controversial compound, Meg 105.

What did I just fall into? Am I completely insane?

I have a 2001 Porsche Turbo in black and had some very ugly Los Angeles water etchings all over the hood and the top of the front fenders. Like an idiot I used 2500 wet/dry on the paint which removed the spots at long last,(which I never could remove with my 3m polishing compound) but now am breaking my back trying to polish out the sanding. It's been around two weeks on and off working it down to a just a severe marring of the paint.

Can this package save the paint of my car? Can I do this on my own?

Please help bring back my sanity
    thanks,
    Keith

I don't think the G110 will be able to remove the sanding marks. You might have to go and get it seen to.

    Can you provide some pics?

You won't be able to remove those sanding marks with a G110 most likely

M105 will definitely remove water spots...For someone with a Porsche, just hire a pro detailer in your area lol

        Provide us some pics please!

Thanks for the replies. So from the views expressed here, I should just return the package I just bought? What should I purchase to do this myself?

I don't want to take it to a "pro" because I think I could handle it myself.
Is there any support out there?

              Thanks.

What will the person that is seeing the car going to do?
Is there something I can do? I was hoping to do this myself.
                  What does the pro use?

                  Thx.

Well after long last I finally did it. Removed the etched in water spots completely with 2500 then polished forever with 105 and the G110 Dual Action Polisher. Without the help of a professional. Thanks Meguiar's! I will post a couple of pix shortly.

Hi Keith, and welcome to MOL. We apologize for this post getting past us here, but glad to see you managed to get the sanding marks out. We have to say, using a W8207 pad on a G110 is not an easy way to accomplish this and, depending on the paint, sometimes (usually, in fact) not possible at all. But if you pulled them out of black paint to your satisfaction, then more power to you!

If you are ever free to swing by our offices here in Irvine on a Thursday evening we'd love to have you attend one of our Thursday Night Open Garage sessions. Better yet, if you can devote half a Saturday you can come down to one of our formal seminars and we'll make sure you're using the G110 to its fullest, and detailing that beautiful Porsche Turbo to its best.

                      Again, welcome to MOL!
