  • Yet another Newbie

New for me car, '06 Mustang GT Convertible, black. Looks good from 5' away bur the cobwebbing is driving me nuts. The car has only been waxed with a wash a couple times.
I bought a Porter Cable 7424xp, and a host of retail line Meguiars product, do I need a polish between Ultimate Compound and NXT Tech Wax 2.0?
If it's idiot proof, I will use it.

    Slicer, Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

It’s not mandatory to do a polishing/glazing step between cleaning and protecting. However, especially if you have a darker color vehicle, it could very much be worth your while as you should get more depth of shine. Typically, when you do each individual step you do maximize your results!

Well, I clayed yesterday and put two coats of NXT on with the PC just for winter protection and to get used to the power tool. Got most of the cobwebbing out and really nice shine. I might just use ScratchX and a polish in the spring for the rest.
If it's idiot proof, I will use it.

        Hi Slicer,

ScratchX 2.0 works best with small isolated problems due to its sizing. If you plan to machine buff the entire vehicle use a cleaner like Ultimate Compound or cleaner polish like SwirlX or Ultimate Polish. First do a little test spot with your product to see if it works properly on your paint type and removes defects.

Claying before waxing will extend your wax life and offer longer protection. After you run out of Next Tech Wax 2.0 try new Ultimate Wax (2011 product).

Your car is officially ready for winter.

            Re: Yet another Newbie

When weather permits we highly recommend giving the car a good once over with Ultimate Compound to fully correct the defects, then follow with a pass of Ultimate Polish prior to waxing. UC will remove the defects and UP will greatly refine the finish and impart a high degree of clarity to the finish. Since your car is black, the combination will give a deep, clear, wet look to the finish even before you lay down the wax.
