    Hello all

I've been a Meguiar's fan for quite sometime so here I am. I am planning to detail my latest whip in about a month (2012 Civic coupe in black), which by the way is my third and LAST black car ! Anyone else here share my hate for black cars ?

    Hello and welcome to MOL!!!
I love black cars. Check out the Black Wax. I've used it and I love it!

Nope. I prefer black cars. Sure it easily shows swirls and scratches but there shouldn't be any once you detail the car. And minimal scratches may slowly show up after, but only under direct sunlight and if you are specifically looking for them.

What products are you going to use?

        Re: Noob

I've never used the black wax before... I called Meguiars and they recommended the following -

        # 9 swirl remover, show car glaze, and # 21 synthetic sealant 2.0, all after a clay bar of course. I wanted to use the professional line of products and these were what was advised. I should note - I am doing all of this by hand and prefer not to use a buffer or polisher at this point.

Can you tell me - should I use a particular type of pad such as foam or an even coat microfiber with the # 9 swirl remover ? Meguiars suggested I use the microfiber but I heard before that foam should be used, Any suggestions or comments ? Any different or other recommendations ?

I love black cars when they're new and perfect- they are just so much harder to keep this way : /

at least get the new DAP for your drill. you really need a machine to do paint correction, especially on black. But try out both foam and MF towel.

Do you have a lot of swirls or scratches on the paint?

If you do not have a lot, then you could use Ultimate Polish instead of the Swirl Remover 2.0 and Show Car Glaze.

Also, the professional products aren't better than the consumer line; just different.

And by hand, I like using the yellow foam pads better than microfiber pads. Also, your arm will get a good workout so be prepared for that.

              Re: Noob

The last car I owned was a neutral color. I believe it was pewter. I use to just clay and only did corrections of scratches. Then Waxed it.

Fast forward purchased a brand new Burgundy car and after about 3 washing The Car had nothing but swirls. Decided to bite the bullet and buy a Dual Action Polisher. Best investment I ever made.

Any kind of paint correction, I prefer using a Dual Action Polisher.

Now if you are training for the World Karate Champion Ship disregard using the DA

I thought about trying the DA polisher but figured I'd do everything by hand... That may change though as I know its allot of work to do by hand...

                "carpotential"

I have some spider webbing - and mainly allot of light scratches here and there in the clear coat... is the show car glaze essentially a polish also like the ultimate polish ? these still have to be followed by a sealant / or wax correct ? have you used this DA polisher ?

                "goldenlight"

so you like the DA polisher ? any issues with it ? what products and pads did you use with it ?

Show Car Glaze only adds shine to the paint and does not remove swirls and scratches. Ultimate Polish adds shine to the paint AND removes light swirls and scratches so the two products are different. And yes you would put a coat of wax or sealant after.

                  You could try:

                  1) wash
                  2) clay
                  3) Ultimate Polish
                  4) wax

I use the Meguiars dual action polisher along with the Meguiars 7inch pads.

Some of this gets into which line of products you are choosing. As mentioned above, the Consumer and Pro and Detailer lines are not better or worse than each other, just different products for different applications.

The Pro Line products that were mentioned are good products, but usually not going to be the best choice for working by hand to remove defects. If you were to give me an entire car to do by hand, I would want the Ultimate Compound. I also prefer the foam applicator pads.

Then as far as something to follow up the UC, you would need to see if the finish is good, and just needs some oils, like the #7, or needed a bit milder of a cleaner first, like the Ult. Polish, #9, etc.

I'd be more apt to try the power system over the polisher - mainly because its less expensive.... Anybody use the DA power system ? Is it a waste of money ? I'll try to post some pictures here tomorrow of my car's surface scratches so everyone will have a better idea of what I am facing...

The car just had the trunk repainted- so I have to wait till next month.. However- while it was in the shop for repair it suffered many surface scratches - and the more i wash the car the more i find as the detail job the shop did is wearing off... ; /

                          Re: Noob

The DA Power system works great, just smaller pads, so smaller area at a time.

You mean the repair shop damaged the car?

yes- some light surface scratches. I contacted the shop regarding this but do not want them anywhere near my car again
