  • New guy from San Antonio, Texas

Hello my fellow Meguiar's users. First off, I have loved every single Meguiar's product I have ever used and Meguiar's is all I use on our cars. My car is a 2008 Corvette in Jetstream Blue and my wife drives a 2012 Mazda 6 in Black. I'm eager to learn a lot more about Meguiar's products and tips on how to best maintain the best look on both our cars. I love the products and tips I've learned so far and have begun sharing with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. I thank everyone in advance for all their help.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: New guy from San Antonio, Texas

Went down to San Antonio for some "March Madness" this year. Very welcoming town and we had a great time. You'll get the same here at MOL.

Must say though, the trip down was a bit slow around Dallas-Ft.Worth. A bit slow....we had to wait in line for the concrete to dry to drive on all the new roads!! Some kind San Antonio folks told us about Highway 130 for going home. I think we cleaned the carbon out of the carburetors, charged the hybrid batteries and blew the bugs off the car. Yeehaw that's the way to travel. (90 MPH, okay, okay speed limit 85, but you get 5 extra, right?) Plus it was like having the road to ourselves !!

You got two cars that will require your loving attention. I've never done a Mazda, but guessing those two cars are as different as night and day to polish. If you don't have one already, a DA polisher is gonna be your best friend. Read on and watch all the videos....

Remember to start with a test spot with the least aggressive method.

I'm glad to hear my hometown treated you nice. I love it here and it's the only place I've ever called home. I've not yet had the pleasure of traveling down Highway 130 but something tells me it could a nice time haha

I just received my first DA polisher in the mail the other day and can't wait to put it to work. I'm trying to learn all I can before actually taking it to the paint. I love how I will never stop learning new tips and the possibilities seem endless. I'm really getting into detailing and this forum is awesome!!!! I'm so glad to see how friendly and helpful everyone is.

David really nailed it here - Corvettes are notorious for having relatively hard paint, while Mazdas often have quite soft paint. This means you may very well have quite different experiences working on these two cars. That could mean anything from needing just a single pass on the Mazda to clean things up and double the effort on the Corvette, or you may even need two different pad/product combos on the two vehicles. Why two sets of pad/product? Well, if the Mazda paint is really soft, then it may haze easily when worked on with something like the DA Microfiber System, but that system may be the best choice for the Corvette if the paint is indeed quite hard.

But here's the real tricky bit: you don't really know for sure just how hard or soft, how resilient or sensitive, either of these paints are until you start playing with them. We've seen C6 Corvettes that had rock hard paint, and others that were pretty straightforward to work on. We've seen Mazdas with super touch sensitive paint, and others that were pretty straightforward to work on. While it is indeed possible that these two paints are pretty close to each other in terms of workability, we're willing to be that they at least lean somewhat in opposite directions regarding this. Don't let that concern you though. Just be aware of it and use it to better understand why one paint may respond one way while the other behaves a little (or a lot) differently. But that's all part of the fun of this hobby!!
