  • Uses of All Purpose Cleaner?

I am wondering if I should get myself a gallon of APC, but I honestly don't know if I would ever use it much. I am not a professional. I only have two cars to take care of. I don't need it to clean the interior vinyl, plastic, or leather: I have M40, IQD, and Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner for those purposes. I don't have a carpet cleaner. So what else might I use it for?

I can envision using it to clean the door and trunk jambs (painted surfaces). I haven't yet gotten up the nerve to try to clean the engine bay, but is it strong enough for that?

Does it have any uses around the household?

    TIA.

    Cheers,
    Al

BTW, when folks refer to the "door jambs" or "trunk jambs," am I right in interpreting these phrases as referring to the painted surfaces inside the doors or trunk? Is "door jamb" synonymous with "door shut"?

Oh my.... where does the list start...

Wheel wells, tires, seats, carpets, headliner, engine bay, steering wheels, shoes, suitcases, household carpets, sinks, showers, bathtubs, tables, outdoor furniture, yard statues/decorations, hard floors, lawn mower, snow blower, inside refrigerator, exercise equipment...

I am sure I have forgotten a few things I have used it for cleaning...

I tend to just wipe around the engine bay, and works fine for that. I really don't use it on the painted parts of the door jambs, because I don't know how much lubrication it provides.

What can't you use APC to clean might be the better question.

APC+ gets my vote over APC if your going to pick up a gallon.

Good list Murr, there's a few on there I haven't yet tried.

What is the difference between the two? Are there things that APC can be used for that APC+ should not be used for--and vice versa?

APC+ has a degreaser and is low foaming.

          APC is foaming.

Right. If you use a hot water extractor APC+ is made to work in those machines without creating too much sudsing action.

I use APC+ in mine and LOVE LOVE LOVE the results.

You can get a Bissell Little Green Cleaning Machine (LGCM) at Wal-Mart for under $100.

Like others mentioned, the list of uses for APC/APC+ is almost infinite... I use that for cleaning every interior on every car, and then follow with M40 and/or IQD for my final pass.

APC+ also ROCKS at working on wheels, tires, carpets, and engines.

Another thing worth pointing out is the scent. APC smells like a chemical cleaner APC+ has a citrus scent.

Both work very well... once you have either or both you will find endless uses! If I had to choose between the two... APC+ because it has a better as mentioned above.

I like APC+ just because it doesn't foam like APC, and the scent is way better when you are doing an interior job.

I think that you can dilute a little bit more APC+ compared to APC

I use APC+ for all carpet and upholstery cleaning, and APC for everything else.

I like apc+ because of the low foaming action. Once you get the product you will be amazed at all of the things you will clean with it.

Re: Uses of All Purpose Cleaner?

                          Lots of disconnected thoughts, but....

                          1. Where is APC+ at the Meg's Store? It is still shown at ADS, but I don't see it at Meguiar's.

                          2. I happen to be a big fan of the APC. It is my understanding that today's APC replaced the APC+ of several years ago. That product was one of my favorites and the new APC seems to perform the same for me.

                          3. In my spray on, let dwell, then brush or wipe use, I don't have any problem with excess foaming. Is the foaming problem something that only happens with extractors?

                          4. The statement in the APC ad copy, "its unique blend of fabric softeners and optical brighteners enhance the look and feel of carpet, upholstery, vinyl and even leather." was one of the reasons I first started using the product. The later APC+ made no reference to fabric softeners and optical brighteners. I guess I felt that they would be a good thing to have so I stayed with today's version of APC.

                          5. Other than non foaming and a less objectionable odor, (which I have no problem with), are there some other reasons for preferring the APC+?

                          6. I happen to use today's APC mixed at 10:1 for just about all of my "All Purpose Cleaning". It's nice to just need one spray bottle for so many uses.

                          7. My carpeted mats get a vacuum, APC/brush, vacuum again, cleaning every time I wash the vehicles so they are rarely very dirty. Having once read where this "surface cleaning" really didn't clean them, I tried an experiment. After my usual cleaning process, I took the mats in the house and soaked/scrubbed them in the shower. (MY wife would have shot me if I had used the tub) The wash water from cleaning the mats was not at all dirty which makes me think my "surface cleaning" isn't doing all that bad.

                          8. Last, but not least. I have tried a lot of all purpose cleaners over the years and still find Meg's APC to be my favorite by a large margin.

It's a limited release product that isn't sold at the Meg's store. There are 3 or 4 limited products.

                            2. I happen to be a big fan of the APC. It is my understanding that today's APC replaced the APC+ of several years ago. That product was one of my favorites and the new APC seems to perform the same for me.

From my understanding there was APC+ that was replaced by APC. Now the new APC+ came out. I've never used the original version of APC+.

                            3. In my spray on, let dwell, then brush or wipe use, I don't have any problem with excess foaming. Is the foaming problem something that only happens with extractors?

Should only be a problem with extractors. The dirty water tank tends to get full of foam rather quickly. I also think it's more for people that use the APC in the solution tank of the extractor.

                            5. Other than non foaming and a less objectionable odor, (which I have no problem with), are there some other reasons for preferring the APC+?

From my use it seems APC+ is a little better at cutting grease and oil. I had one client complain about the smell of APC after I cleaned his carpet. That prompted me to order some APC+.
My comments are in blue above. Hope I've helped.
