  • Audi A6 engine bay

Did the engine bay on the Audi A6 today. After a winter with salt and dirt, everything looked pretty bad. The engine is usually covered with a big plastic cover with noise insulation, and it appeared to never have been cleaned under this cover. I decided to do something about it.. I've seen far worse engine bays than this, but anyway, just wanted to post a picture..

BTW: The engine is a 5-cylinder TDI engine, 2.5 litres and 140 hp.

Nice and Clean. Great Job! Engine detailing is one of my favorite things to do. There is usually such a dramatic difference afterwards. Makes it fun. What did you use? Did you apply any dressings at all?

            What I did:
            1) Made sure the engine was warm (not hot to touch, nor stone cold) to soften the oily dirt around the cam cover.
            2) Sprayed on some soap-based generic environmental-friendly degreaser. (not petroleum based)
            3) Used a pressure washer to clean off the worst.
            4) Left it to dry about 15-20 minutes.
            5) Sprayed on more degreaser.
            6) Used a stiff painter's brush to loosen the toughest spots.
            7) Rinsed off the rest of the soap and dirt with the pressure washer.
            8) Took a picture and appreciated the result!

I'll put on some plastic/rubber dressing too, but I discovered that the bottle was empty, will buy more on Tuesday when everything opens again after easter break..
