  • My VT Commodore SS - bet youve never heard of these!

Its been a while since i did a proper job on my own car, and had the day off today so figured id give it a going over.

For those who dont know about these cars its a Holden, and is the model the monaro/pontiac GTO was based on. essentially the original 2002 monaro was a 2 door version of this car with slightly different bumpers, different wheels, and new head/tail lights. its a 5.7 LS1 (220kw at the flywheel stock) 4-speed automatic. ive done a few mods: LS6 intake manifold, GTS intake pipe and mafless tune, monaro cold-air intake and K&N filter, plus HSV (performance arm of Holden, similar to STi/Subaru i guess) extractors, opened stock catalytic converters and a twin 2.5inch mild steel, mandrel bent system. end result was 215kw at the wheels, or roughly 288 at the flywheel, for a spend of around $3500.

external mods include 18inch hyper silver wheels, CV8 monaro tail lights, VX commodore rear garnish (between tail lights) and calais chrome strip, calais chrome front grilles, and the window tint.

washed with NXT gel, clayed with quik clay kit, #80 on bosch R.O.S, #7 on R.O.S, and wax NXT 1.0 liquid. 303 on the trim/plastic, non-acid wheel cleaner/NXT wash and colour boost (similar to color X apparently, just an older version)on the wheels, colour boost on engine covers and under bonnet, hot shine aerosol on the tyres, NXT metal polysh on the brightwork and NXT GC on the glass. took about 5.5 hours but didnt start til midday, so the sun had just about gone down when i took the photos.

And a couple of old ones to give you an idea of the paint in the sun

    Thanks for looking!

thanks all, the car youre getting as the G8 in the US is actually a VE commodore, the next 'new' (not an update of an existing model) after mine. as usual pontiac are changing the bumpers and badges, heres a pic of the Holden spec VE SS-V though:

oh and the vauxhall VXR8 is based on the HSV VE clubsport.

Very nice car man. I would love to get ahold of one of those.... So what is the base price on that model and that looks like a 2007-2008 model.

yeah thats an 07. they go for around $50K AUD, for an SS-V. sticker price is $52,790 plus $2K for an automatic. an SS is between $40 and $48K depending on options. base models (called omega) can be had for around $30K AUD.

very nice! I own an 06 GTO and damn that thing does look similar. I saw the new G8 yesterday for the first time in person and love it. I really appreciate the Holden cars that have been turning into Pontiacs!

thanks heaps, i noticed recently the latest TV ad for the G8 claims it to be the best pontiac ever made-and its an Australian made Holden! interesting...
