I posted questions about this car in Detailing 101 yesterday, and here are some pics of the work. This wasn't a full exterior detail, just knocking some work out for a guy who didn't own any buffers. I certainly didn't get all of the oxidation in the little nooks and crannies, but the owner just wanted the worst of it taken care of and he'll finish the rest. I would have needed another full day to finish a full detail, and he wanted it for a car club gathering this morning. He had no idea the difference that could be made!
I just wanted to show here the difference that can be made with the new SMAT duo (M105/M205).
Process I used after experimenting and coming to MOL for help:
- lightly clay the surface to remove the bulk of the contaminants
- M105/rotary/so1o light cutting wool pad
- grumble because I don't own a pad washer yet
- "spur, spur, spur!" as Mike said yesterday
- follow with M205/rotary/yellow polishing pad
- NXT 2.0 wax
This thing had a couple panels that had been spray painted, a lot of dings, a spot where a bird egg had fallen out of a tree and landed on the car and etched the paint beyond repair, and various other problems. He's going to add a body kit and completely restore it maybe next year, so the idea wasn't to take it to the highest level.
Befores:
After trying M205/rotary by itself. Didn't take out all the oxidation and scratches:
After M105/wool pad and M205/polishing pad (we have a winner!):
The mostly finished product:
This one you can still see a little oxidation around the door handle. Like I said, I ran out of time. However, I taught him how to finish up by hand.
Here you can really see the spray painted fender. I think this car had rear-ended someone at some point and the previous owner had replaced the nose and patched up the fenders and spray painted them. Ugh.
