I personally used APC+ (All Purpose Cleaner Plus) diluted 10:1 and scrubbed with an upholstery brush.
To protect, you can use M72 Canvas protectant
Just an FYI but M72 is being discontinued, and I have heard it is great stuff, so if you want some, I'd snag some soon.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
