  • Fun with a 54 FORD now with a Superior Shine .........

This is a buddies 1954 Ford Customline. I had detailed this over 6-7 years ago but it was clearly time to detail her again.

The lacquer finish was somewhat faded.

I first attempted to polish the finish with #105 but it was ineffective. Polishing faded lacquer with a wool pad loads up the pad with dead paint pretty quickly. #105 has a very hard but tiny grit to it. I needed something "grittier" and went with #85. #85 is an oilier product and worked really nice.

Some areas where so faded I elected to colorsand them with 2000 grit first before polishing with #85.

I polished out all the hard to reach areas with my "baby" Meguiars foam cutting pad.

Here you can see the little pad loading up with dead paint from just polishing around the door handle.

Total paint correction was done completely with a rotary polisher.

I only use a DA to apply the protection coat. Here I am using the new G110 v2 to apply #20 polymer sealant.

This job took most of the day but was a blast to do! SHES A SHINY NOW!

i see you took the buick out for the job, thats awesome! the paint on that ford is great. way to bring it back to life...

does #85 have a longer work time? i noticed trying to polish out old unhealthy paint with m105 could be quite tough since its so dry. even on newer cars

I took the Riviera for a few reasons - it was a beautiful day, she hadn't been driven for awhile, using a waterless wash I didn't need my van with tank and pressure washer. And working at this shop I had electric so I didn't need to bring a generator.

Thank you all for the compliments.

I notice that you use Megs #20 a lot for your LSP. Is that your finish of choice and why?
