  • Detailed : Toyota Avanza Met Silver

This is my girls car. I've detailed the paint about a year plus ago. Car is never under a garage/shed (home park outside, workplace no shade). Its true 24/7 under the sun/moon *LOL*.

Paint is Metallic Silver and only have very minor swirls. Only issue is the bonded contaminants. Never been washed by a car wash company. Its one of my test mule on testing products (especially sealants/waxes). Its wearing Collinite 915 when the car came in.

So this is the second time its polished since Oct 2008 (that a long time ago). Previous writeup here.

Anyhow, here are the breakdown on the things done.

    Vehicle upon arrival.

Here's the overall picture of the car.

Scratches on the door handle. Notice the clear peeling from the keyhole.

    Bird poop

    Fuel cap- not that bad.

Whenever we send the car to be serviced, the service centre really likes their grease. They grease any hinge on the car. LOL Nasty stuff

    Roof

Wheels - not that bad. Wearing Meguiars #16.

On the other hand, here are some pictures of the engine bay. Note that the engine has not been washed since its first major detail in Oct08 (If memory serves me right-rechecking on my log book later). LOL

Overview of the whole engine bay

    Acid Stains

Part of the chrome grill underneath the hood. (Sorry for the blurry picture)

Dirt on under the hood, dust and grease stains on the engine.

    Dirt

More grease on the hood hinges

    .

Started by washing the engine bay

    Process & Tools used:

    • Power Washed the engine bay and both the front fender
    • Foamed using Foam Cannon with APC
    • Scrubbed using variety of brushes.
    • Some parts got sprayed with SuperDegreaser (10:1)
    • PW to rinse (repeat for stubborn spots)
    • Air blown via compressor
    • Wiped remaining water.
    • Painted panels polished (and white plastic tanks) with D151 (foam app) and wiped off using demoted MFs
    • Some parts of the metal was polished with NXT All Metal Polish(foam app) and demoted MFs.
    • Plastics dressed with HyperDressing 4:1. Cooked for 5Minutes.
    • Wiped off remaining residue

    Here are some after shots.

Acid corroding the paint. Just polished to clean things up.

    Overall view of the engine

    Cleaner hinges

Chrome bits polished to near perfection

Grease/gunk under the hood? No more!

    Moved on to the body.

    Process & Products Used:

    • PW all wheel wells and undercarriage
    • Foam Cannon'ed the wheels, wheel wells and undercarriage using APC
    • PW to rinse
    • Approached wheel by wheel+undercarriage using myriad of brushes+MF mitt, APC (10:1) and SDeg (10:1).
    • PW to rinse
    • Sprayed Body Solvent on undercarriage and wheels.
    • Thoroughly washed via PW + Shampoo Plus + rinse
    • Foam Cannon'ed the whole vehicle with APC
    • Rinsed with PW
    • 2BM wash with HyperWash
    • Dried with 2 water magnets
    • Water in nooks and crannies blown with compressed air

    Paint Correction: Tools and Products

    • Clay with Blue (started with) then used Red on tougher areas - ONR as lube
    • IPA wipedown
    • G220 (KBM)
    • M105 (old version)
    • M205
    • 6.5" Meguiars Pad
    • Ultimate Wipes & Supreme Shine - at least 6 pieces per type.
    • Glass had minor stains - polished with M04 on 6.5 Maroon pad via RB.
    • Plastic headlights received same treatment as paint
    • Door jambs & hinges area polished with D151
    • Rewashed to remove compounding dust
    • Dried with WaterMagnets
    • IPA wipedown
    • LSP
      • Paint - Meguiars #16 (2 coats)
      • Exterior Plastic - M40
      • Tires - Endurance High Gloss - didn't use this for a long time- smells yummy
      • Door seals and rubber roof lining sealed with M40
      • Undercarriage with HyperDressing 4:1
      • Glass - RainX (2 coats)

Here are some of the during pictures.

Embedded dirt stuck in the paint. Claying barely budge them nasty stuff.

    50/50 under Metal Halide lights

    Before

After - didn't pushed it - paint was thin

    Before

Cotton buds primed with M105 - clean really good.

    After

Some parts didn't managed to squeeze the buds in. Oh well, next time then.

Headlights Before: Stains on the plastic

    After

    G220, M105 - finished with M205 - Looks better now.

Some random reflections from the car's paint.

Interior - Just did a simple wipe down and vacc. No pictures.

ps: The 303 fabric protector applied at least 6 months ago is still holding up really well. Water still beads on the front seats (highest traffic from bums - LOL)

So here is the finished product. I just quickly snapped pictures outside, rained after only few minutes of sunshine.

    Clean wheel and tire

I just love to see the suspension arm all clean.

Thats it. Thanks for viewing. Comments and suggestions are most welcomed.

    Thank you

Great work on the Toyota. The car looks fantastic. Way to go.

Hey Tim, How do you get away with only doing her car every 15 months or so? Just kidding.
