  • 2008 xB detail... It's been a long winter!

Yesterday, I finally had a nice day to finally clean my car... It has only been washed maybe three times all winter long due to work/school/whatever else and its time it got some love!

Did the basic wash/dry with Gold Class. Then I got to find all the abuse the finish went through this winter... Extra rock ships, scratches, etc... I had one horrible scratch (4-6" long) on the rear bumper, which I immediately went to work on. By hand, vigorously worked in scratch X 2.0, followed up my swirl X by hand and then by machine (PC). Started out as a big, white scratch which is now very well hidden and difficult to spot (not invisible, but good enough for what I can do!).

Clayed some specific areas... The hood, some spots on the side panels which had grease/oil or some other residue that did not come off with normal washing, and the back hatch area in some spots... Basically, a touch up with clay.

I then applied via PC a coat of M21 - removed after I did a quick engine detail to remove all the white salt spray. Excellent shine once again, and it's SO nice to have a clean car (although it will rain for the next 7 days or so...) Today I had to do a quick touchup with UQD to remove some dust buildup and just admired the shine!

Here are some finished pics... Sorry I had no before/after. Finish looks great for being post-winter. In May I plan to do a pass of swirl-X and follow it up with two coats of sealant/wax, when I have some time off from work to do so! In the next few weeks I put my summer rims/tires back on!

    Enjoy!

    Beautiful! Love those reflections.
I can't believe the amount of snow still showing, but spring is coming and soon it will be a memory.

BTW, is that a G8 in the background?

Great looking BOX! I have the same one (w/o the fog lights, though). Black Pearl Sand.

TechWax 2.0 on our paint is great. However, if you want to add extra depth and shine, top it off with Gold Class Carnauba Plus.

Did you clay the roof panel? It was a bit of a pain to clay it, but it can be done. Since, I got my xB (July 2009) I have clayed it twice already. You'll be surprised on how many times you have to clay the roof panel, to get it as smooth as glass.

Nah, didn't clay the roof this time around. When I do my full detail in May I will do the entire car and such. I just wanted it washed/waxed basically, with some touch up clay here/there. My car is garaged, so the finish was not rough or anything requiring clay. Still very smooth. Not to mention, I don't see the roof so it's lower priority for me

And in May I plan to top the NXT with Yellow Wax or the new Carnanuba just released. I will try it out and see, but I have topped in the past and I never noticed any visual difference. Even when I spent extra time putting down some #7 before my LSP, to me, was not worth the time for the "lack of" visual improvement I saw. Same with double layering NXT, I never notice a difference. I just apply a nice, thin even layer and it looks great.
