  • My Two Year Meguiars Journey - Thanks!

    Hey All,

My car has come a long way over the past two years since I joined the Meguiars family. I've been apart of several automotive forums in my life but none whose had a more supportive community than this one. Thanks to the incredibly active moderators and you detail enthusiasts I've been able to keep my paint in great condition.

I've done a pretty good job of documenting the journey and wanted to share it with you all. I had some previous detailing experience but you guys were able to refine those skills starting from the beginning.

Bought this 2006 Nissan 350z from a Lawyer out of Houston, Texas. This was a picture from the original autotrader advertisement:

    Notice the swirls up front:

    2008:
And here is a picture gallery of its first detail!

At this point I was using the consumer line Meguiars claybar, quick detailer, G110, and M80/83. This was before the 105/205 dream team.

And the results of its first detail:

    2009:

It's around this time I got bit by the detailing BUG which we all know so well. I ended up buying a big box of new products and increasing the size of my customer base:

For the next 5 months I detailed several cars and increased my detailing experience exponentially. With you guys on my side I was able to tackle any problem.

However I was very hesitant to switch from a DA to a rotary and even more nervous to start wetsanding. With a slight push from a local detailer I made the jump: Meguiars Help Thread

    2010:
    And here we are now.

A large Meguiars inventory (mostly in smaller bottles)

And the paint is looking great:

The above pictures were taken for a couple website features:

I created this thread to give a big thanks to the Meguiars team and to the community. You all have been extremely helpful obtain my goals and hone my skills.

I've posted some of my favorite details along the way:

All I can say is WOW!!!!!! That paint looks incredible and those reflections are so perfect, deep and dark. Awesome job on the car!!

BTW, incredible job on the other details as well; I am particularly fond of the orange vette. It is interesting though on the silver car in the last detail that the paint did not like M105/M205. Perhaps Menzerna products are "wetter" for lack of a better word and contain more oils than M105/M205. Just a thought.

^Hey Coopers, I can't explain it either. I've been able to accomplish most anything with 105/205 but for whatever reason I was not getting the results I wanted. Had to dust off the old bottles of Menzerna's which worked well with that particular car.

Had to revert back to the Meguiars motto of using what worked for me.

OMG that's the nicest 350Z I've ever seen! Wow, I literally gasped when I saw this pic:

^^ You should really be using a smaller version of that as your avatar IMO.

Well done mate and thanks for sharing your journey!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Wow nice videos. I guess your on stock internals? Otherwise you'd be above 400hp or so.

Great call! Yup, stock internals for now. The powerlab kit I purchased is estimated to hit 650whp but can't get above 400 on the stock block. No plans on building the block as of now. Saving money for an Lexus LS430 as a daily driver at the moment. I love the Z but it really is not functional as a DD.
