  • My latest detail work, which happens to be my first DA detail!!

    Hi ya'll,

thanks for all the help! You guys are just the best!!

so would like to show what i have done.

Wash, Clay, UC with Chemicalguys Hex orange pad, cleaner wax with Chemicalguys Hex black pad, and GC via DA.

So what a day to start, 08/13/2010...
Planned to wash the car and polish, because this is my first weekend with a DA. I was excited, and woke up with ORANGE sky...
    There was a storm...
Luckily it stopped... but it looked like that for 2 days

and this is the victum, 1993 VW polo

Even with rain water, it still looked dull...

so when it stopped raining. I wash the car... with pressure washer.

I don't think it was washed often, but again it was driven also not too often. It is own by my grandpa-in-law. So I wanted to do something nice to him, plus I can practice my DA skill. since i have never done it before.

so after wash i clayed. as it was not driven often and it is always been garaged, paint surface was clean... but I picked up some color... and i was like "man my frist DA is on SS paint..."

It was not pink but it is like this...

My first application of UC via DA

and my PAD will never be like this again....

    BEFORE (TEST SPOT)

    AFTER (TEST SPOT)

1 application of UC with medium cutting pad
with 3 heavy passes, and 2 light passes to refine the polished surface.

HERE IS 50/50 on the door...
my camera is ready to die... that first ever 50/50 shot...

and i managed to get a better shot

    And the finished door...

    my fav. 1/4 panel BEFORE

    AFTER

now it is time for polished shots.

    and after the cleaner wax...
it started to rain again... so there were no final shot after GC wax...
even it has been raining for two days.
the sun came out to see the result of polishing and cleaner wax...

What I would say is, if you don't have DA, please get one...
I am very happy with DA, it is not hard to use, but I do have to be careful. All panels were corrected with 1 application of UC with no follow up.

It does have some for stuff to fix. but it is ok for this car.
My grandpa-in-law was very happy and he kept the whole day.
    This makes me happy.

By all mean it is not perfect. But I am learning.
Once again I would like to thank you all.
    Thank meguiar's for wonderful products.

I can't wait to use all those products that I have and move on M105 and M205.

    Thanks for reading.

Looks great! What kind of pad were you using? It looks like an Adams pad.

Does anyone think that's a bit too much product to prime the pad?

Oops... I just realized that pad is 2/3 the size of your hood. Never mind.

Honestly though, I find a very small spritz with M34 (or similar) will save you quite a bit of product. You'll be able to work more panels with the same pad as well, before the pad gets loaded with product.

Thanks, I did indeed. But the machine was a little heavier than I have expected, especially towards the end LOL!!

It is a chemicalguys 5.5 inch Hex medium cutting pad.

so that i have an excuse to buy M105 and M205

UC doesn't dust up like M105 does with a DA, unless you really need the extra cutting power of M105, I'd stick with UC.

I know it's fun to try new stuff, but you might want to keep some UC on hand if you do order M105, so you can see the difference between the two. UC is an awesome product.

but I have to see if I want that extra power.
If I got those extra power, I might as just use M105 and polishing pad.

glad you got everything figured out with the SS paint... car looks fantastic... good job bringing the shine back and for taping up!

I only use one application. and it is a good finishing shine IMHO.
You should just give it a try.

I think it would be much better if I use swirlX with polishing pad.
but i really don't want to make my white pad red...
orange pad and black pad is already red...

BTW gut I do have a question.
as long as there is no more red color coming out of the pad.
I should be able to use it on other color, right?
I tried my best to get all the red out before I put it in for a machine wash... i hope it works...
                          ADVICE please

Yah, don't worry about it if you've already done your best at cleaning the pad. Just don't work on blue single stage paint, why...

because your pad will end up purple ;-)
of course I'm kidding, you're good to go!!!

Your pads are all going to get some color on them over time no matter how careful you are. Even on cars with clear coat, some trim pieces, mirrors etc. are single stage. Lots of things end up repainted, touched up etc.
