  • Harley Road Glide, F-350

Got a call from a guy at a local bike shop who needed his bike polished & sealed. He said the black paint did not just look right to him under his garage lighting.

There was seven years of swirls & marring on the painted surfaces, the tank was the worst.

    This was after washing/claying:

I ended up polishing with D300 Correction Compound via PCXP & 5.5" MF cutting discs. I followed that up with D301 Finishing Wax with my PCXP & a 5.5" LC white pad.

The bike was covered in tar & road grime & I was told it had been washed only several times in its seven years of life.

    Process:

Foamed & washed with Super Soap.
Clayed with Meguiars blue clay & ONR.
All surfaces treated with liberal amounts of Tarmiantor (2 cans).
Chrome/aluminum polished with Hot Rims Chrome Polish & steel wool.
D300 Correction Compound via PCXP & 5.5" MF cutting discs.
D301 Finishing Wax via PCXP & 5.5" LC white pad.
    HD Poxy.

    Not too many good pics.

    ====================================================

I was called in to sevice a couple of newer F-350 for one of my regular clients.

It was driven to Indiana & hit some tar on the way, plus combined with a long trip through constant rain it was looking a little weathered.

My client is a clean freak & loves his work trucks looking "out of the ordinary clean looking"

They both looked the same so I will post only one.

    Before:

Foamed & washed with Super Soap.
Painted/chrome surfaces sealed with Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax.
    Tires/wells/frame dressed with Hyper-Dressing 2:1.
Jambs & toolbox cleaned with ONR.
Interior was given a vac/wipedown & floor cleaning.

The D301 seems to be holding up well too.

The truck looks nice Nick!! The yellow really looks glossy!

What product did you use to remove the tar? Also, did you use HD on the wheel wells? Man that's clean! The truck looks like new!

I was thinking of you this afternoon when I was waxing the rear painted fenderwells on my Silverado. Been considering the rear inner fender liners but knowing everything behind 'em would be crudding up beyond repair over time would bug me.

Nick, you've got my eternal admiration for the job on that soft Vivid Black tin. It took me years and owning 3 of 'em before I finally found the right recipe for a swirl free finish. Still have to be real careful wiping off residue as the stuff swirls if you look at it wrong. First time the owner wipes the dust off it isn't going to look near as nice. I picked up the MF system with 3" pads with the bike specifically in mind. Some report the Finishing Wax is tough to finish haze-free with the MF Finishing pads on soft clear. I was thinking a slightly firmer foam pad might do the trick. Thanks for confirming that.

Good move removing the tank console... makes things a lot easier and you can get under where the edges sit. Tough place to remove any marring up close to the trim strip when the console is still there. A little tip on those 100th Anniversary bikes... there's only one place and one way to replace those special trim strips with the mini H-Ds running through them if they get boogered up... the tin has to go back to the factory. The MoCo won't even send the trim to dealers for replacements. Super-duper top secret stuff methinks.

You didn't mention the wheels. Was the rear one crudded up and pitted like most? I've found S100/P21S polishing soap to work great as well as Meg's Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum polish. Almost gotta do 'em by hand if they're on the bike. MF gloves were made for that chore. The brake pads on the early 2000s - 2004 or so were fairly caustic. If you didn't keep 'em clean and polished the dust would etch right into the aluminum. No way to get 'em back short of wet sanding and polishing.

        Exceptionally nice work, as usual!

Incredible job Nick! That bike is transformed! I sort of don't want to do bikes only because there are just so many little crevices to get into. But, you did an outstanding job!
