  • 18 year old BMW

Well this is my daily driver
18 year old car being driven by a 20 year old driver

This car has sentimental value to me and thus it gets babied as much as possible. The car was bought new at Crevier BMW in Santa Ana,Ca by my Dad, he drove it only for a couple years and then passed away. It sat in our garage in Yorba Linda were I grew up and did not get used much. I pretty much grew up knowing it will eventually be mine. I got the car with I think around 75,000 miles when I was 16 years old. I have done 100% of the maintenance and servicing on the vehicle since it got into my hands. My first job was working as a shop boy at an Independent BMW and Mercedes Benz repair shop and have been on good terms with my former boss and he continues to this day to let me work on my car at his shop. This is a relationship that I cherish as my former boss is truly the good side of the industry; ethical, honest and fair.

Here are the details of the car as it sits today 1993 BMW e36 325i 5spd with 107,7xx miles with original AlpineWeiss I paint

It is currently 98% stock the only additions it has are the followingwheels off a 1995 M3 Coupe the DSI style that I will eventually be refinishing and alight weight flywheel

This week I am going to be doing the following hopefully door handle gaskets door gasketsfront trim license plate delete

the future holds it getting closer to earth with some new springs and shocks eventually

heres the products and tools I used on it
    Gold Class soap
2 Grit Guards in each of my 2 buckets
    Meguiars Microfiber mitt
    Water Magnet drying towel
Last touch 1:1 for clay lube
    Meguiars Consumer white clay
    Porter Cable 7424 DA
    Meguiars Microfiber correction set 5"
    Ultimate Polish
    Ultimate Wax
    Last touch
    Synthetic Spray Wax

a couple more showing some reflection goodness
O ya and one final picture taken at Meguiars HQ shot by the man himself, Mr. Mike Stoops
this was me cleaning my wheels with most likely some Quick Detailer and a grungy micro
Thank you for taking the time to go through my long thread

Thanks for sharing the story behind your vehicle. You did a good job making it look well kept. I wouldn't think that it was 18 years old. I'm sure your dad's proud.

That is a very clean and sweet looking BMW but do you really want to lower the suspension?
It looks fantastic as it is.

Great looking car! Yeah go on - lower it!

What size are those rims? Some bigger ones would really set it off...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Great looking E36, it is refreshing to see the "old" kept looking new. Thanks for sharing your work and the story behind it.

            Re: 18 year old BMW

I have been wanting to drop it for a long time
For a "sporty" car it does not handle like one
there are boatloads of bodyroll, those little mini mud flap in the front actually scrape the pavement if you toss it into a turn hard enough

Ya it would for sure benefit from a drop

Im looking for all the following on the drop
            improve suspension handling
            reduce body roll
            improve the overall looks
reduce the fender gap up front
            slight bit of rake
            not break the bank

I may need to do some spacers to push them out a bit as I am tucked in quite a bit, I will see how it looks after the drop

            they are 17"x7.5" square

I paid $440 for 4 wheels and six tires

            4- Michelin Sport Pilots 235/45/ZR17
2 in good condition- I believe those were his fronts- these are now my rears
2 completely corded- I believe those were his rear and lit em up pretty good when they were finished- I used these wheels as my fronts

2 Fuzion 215/45/17 in good condition- these are my fronts, **** tire but it rolls lol

Nice to you see finally post some pix of this little beauty. Having seen this car in person many times, we can attest to just how well maintained it is. Beautiful ride all around, and it certainly hides its age very well indeed.

You know your car is clean when Michael Stoops thinks it's clean

Looks great -- I have a silver e36 that I love to death. Great cars. I just put Koni Sports on mine and it is riding like new again. Mine too has a lot of sentimental value, we took european delivery on it when we were moving back to the US from Germany, where my family and I lived when I was young (about 7 years old).

Great story and great looking car!
I like that your keeping it nearly stock, I think it looks good stock height but I understand you wanting to lower it.

Hang on to that thing and pass it on to your kid someday.

                          Keith Thank you
Ya keeping it "stockish" is not easy but it is what is needed

I like how my rears sit but the front just has too much gap up front for my tastes

This thing is not going anywhere
I plan to keep this thing on the road for a very very long time
It is constantly getting new parts tossed at it

I got the front plate delete trim and the new door handle gaskets on last week
wow it sure is the simple things

Today I installed new windshield cowls as my old ones were cracked and starting to fall apart big time
unfortunately I do not have any shots of the old ones

I will get a couple more pictures tonight with some before and afters
