This the third Exotic Red Grande Punto I've done in a row
Ah well, better get down with it! Not much before pictures, I was short on time so had to get started immediately.
Process used :
Meguiars Cut n Finish + LC Orange pad on Rupes Bigfoot 21
Meguiars M205 + W8006
Opti Coat 2.0
Hood was an exception, used FG400 + W7006 on a rotary followed by Meguiars M205 + W8006.
The Car was a month old. I started off on the hood and immediately noticed something strange
Paint was coming off a brand new car...Ive done 2 cars of this colour before and know for sure it is supposed to be BC/CC. Investigated further and this hood was repainted at the dealership, poor owner did not notice when he bought it!
Bad masking job :
Owner then dropped the idea of pursuing the dealership and told me to do whatever I can to shine it. Oh well!
The hood although repainted, was acting very strange. I tried M105 + LC Orange pad, however after 15 seconds with 1000rpm the pad would overheat and start grabbing the paint. When I took off the pad, it was steaming! Tried some Menz FG400 along with W7006 cutting pad, combo worked beautiful!
Deep sanding marks remained, but not much visible (had to struggle to take this picture!)
Started off with the rest of the car. I have always been a roatry guy but received a Rupes just 2 days before! This was the first time I was using a DA
I was struggling at first to get the compounds to work with the Rupes. It needed lot adjustments to my techniques. The first few panels I did left behind DA marring; I did not even know it was DA Marring, I was wondering why the Rupes wasnt able to finish down well.
Few pics with Megs CnF and Rupes, pictures look good but there was micromarring everywhere :
...After 4 panels managed to finish marr free
Followed up with M205 and W8006 to remove all marring. Process went on smooth but I was :O :O :O after seeing the end pictures! For these pics I used my trusty DSLR:
Selfie time
I even made a video to show how well the correction happened; Please ignore the masking tape and splatter, hadn't completed the cleanup by the time I took the video:
Sealed the surface with Opti Coat after IPA Wipedown anf took another video. This time shot it in HD
Took it out for a few shots, no pics in direct sun because I was short on time :
Cleaned the wheels using APC, put on Hyper Dressing. Engine was cleaned using Super Degreaser and then sprayed on with Hyper Dressing. Sorry for no pics, was really short on time
Owner was delighted and I was even more so after looking at the grin on his face, which resembled a Cheshire cat
