  • Detailed 2010 GMC Acadia

Detailed a 2010 GMC Acadia this weekend. The vehicle wasn't in horrible shape but all she wanted was a wax and more effort focused on the inside. It is a daily driver and sits out 100% of the time. It goes through the tunnel car wash with the foam style beaters. The same car wash I used before I joined this form (that was for you Michael Stoops ) And that will continue. The car really did need to be clayed but I wasn't getting compensated for that and it will be back at the car wash so I just hit it with Megs Cleaner wax on my DA. It turned out pretty good and she is very happy. The inside looks pretty nice too. The pictures don't do it justice but the leather seats where pretty dirty. They came out good and clean.

Dude, You get superb results! Especially from that ole Cleaner Wax! Great job

You make me want to take the leap into whatever steamer you have to get those noticable results on the interior.
How bad where the rims before you cleaned them with D143? Because I notice they're really clean in the after pix..

As you can tell from the pictures they weren't too bad. Worse than my personal car of course, but not bad. That is a great wheel and tire cleaner.

The detail side of me really wanted to spend more time on some details, and even though it is for a family member, she isn't going to know or care that it wasn't clayed. It looks shinier than when I took and the inside is cleaned. I am trying to find that fine line of how much do you do because some people at work are starting to ask, but they don't want to spend $200 or what ever. Partially because they don't know what is involved, but I guess they may not care. They just want it shiny or protected and are good with that, and I have to be good with that. One of these weekends I am going to do my own car. lol

So far, this steamer has been a really nice addition. Works great on light to modertly dirty carpets, great for cleaning out those door sills, cup holders, and tight to reach places. I got it at Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/steam-c...-kit-8823.html It was actually on sale for $119 when I got it and I had a 20% off in addition to that. I ordered mine online because we don't have a HF here in town. Takes about 15 minutes to get going and I always trips my fuses in the garage so I can't have it on with the vacuum or other stuff, but other than that it is working out for my purposes well.

It sounds like me and you are going through the same stage as far as pricing etc... Personaly, I've just about reached the end of that fine line of basicly 'giving it away'

Because there comes a point where it's plain for you to see that you're no longer some uninformed noob experimenting with random OTC products.. If you stop and think about how little some people with 'nice' cars know about how to just properly wash their own cars...

I'm pretty sure you know exactly what I'm talking about.. There comes a point where you've more than passed the novice stage of this. Your foundation of knowledge is solid.

            Re: Detailed 2010 GMC Acadia

I have the same steamer at home (found it a couple of years ago brand new on ebay for $85 with free shipping!!!!) and it's a great little unit for weekend warriors. I even know a couple of well respected local pro detailers who have one on hand for smaller jobs. I don't have the fuse tripping issue with mine but that's likely down to how our respective garages are wired, amperage of fuses, etc. It's important to only used distilled water in a steamer so as not to leave heavy deposits in the system over time. They're great for cleaning carpets and upholstery when you wrap a microfiber towel around the triangular shaped brush, or for cleaning deep into door jambs, engine bays, etc.
