  • 91 Firebird Convertible

Just cleaned up my "rarebird". A little bit of "Scratch X" and "NXT"...

Note the reflection of the street lamp on the hood. It is actually located well beyond the rear of the car - you can see the pole if you look right above the driver's headrest!

        Looks great!

How many of the convertible models did they make this year?

Thanks! I think they only made around 1000. In 91 and 92 only, they could be ordered through GM. They were converted by ASC.

1993 started the 4 the generation F-bodies where the verts came right from GM. Plenty of those on the road!

Sweet! That license plate bracket on the beak hurts to look at, though. But the rest of the car looks great!

I'm not uber Firebird guy, so I'll just ask. It's a V8, right? But a 305? For some reason I though those ground-effects were only on V8 cars, but I'm taking a guess it's not a Trans Am (which could still be a 305, though) due to the hood?

            Am I in the ballpark?

The plate bracket came with the car and I really don't know what to do about it. The screws go all the way through, so it is either the bracket or holes

It is a v8, the verts came with 305s or 3.1 V6s. A 350 was an option for Firebirds/Trans Ams but I guess it was too much torque for a convertible. You can feel a bit of body "twist" on some roads. The nose came on all 91 and 92, but the sides and back were not available on Formula, just Firebirds and TransAms. The Trans Ams have vents on the hood also. Then there is the GTA model which is a fully optioned Trans Am with a 5.7, unless you get the vert which then has the 5.0. Confusing... lol

Cool, thx! I believe you also got a 305 with the Trans Am if you opted for a 5-speed. The L98 was auto-only on the F-bodies (except the Firehawk, which wasn't exactly an L98).

good to see a third gen Firebird on here! I had a '91 Formula that I sold in the spring that I loved (305 TPI 5-speed). I used the same product combo you did with the convertible and got awesome results.

this picture is pre-meguiars, but it gives you the idea. I'm the one kissing the hottie in white!

I sold it with 148k on it to a guy with one of the same year with a third of the miles, and mine out-glossed his by a huge margin!

                  Man, that thing was fast!
