  • Non-Skid Polishing and Waxing?

    Hi
We have a 22ft Grady-White boat to clean, polish and wax.
We use Meg. products and was wondering what to use to wax the non-skid flooring. I need to polish it, but to wax or not to wax is the question.
    Any suggestions?
Also I plan on using D151 as my polish with a rotary and DA for the tight spots. I rarely polish boats and i have only Megs products for Auto's.
I really dont want to buy a bunch of marine products, so is it safe and effective to use car products on the boat?
I am using the D151 because I have read it does well on gel-coats.
    Thanks

You certainly can use any of our automotive products on gel coat, but due to the hardness of the gel coat you may find that the auto products aren't quite powerful enough. It all depends on the severity of the defects and your expectations.

As for the non-skid surfaces, are they textured at all? You're probably better off sticking with an all purpose cleaner and that's it. You don't want to wax something that's supposed to be "non skid" as that sort of defeats the purpose of the surface.

I have used a DA with various polishes on my non-skid with good results. I am more interested in the cleaning effect than anything else. the residue is hard to wipe off so it can be better to just re-wash the area after you polish to get the stuff off. Unless you like injuring people, don't wax it. been there.

It's been a while since I was on a Grady, but I recall that the nonskid is a diamond shape texture. I have polished this before with a cleaner or cleaner polish. it is hard to remove from the texture, and the best way I found to get rid of the left over is with some APC and a light scrubbing with a deck brush.

        +1 on no wax.

          Cool
Boat is done now, and I did polish the non-skid but not wax. I need to get some oxidation remover from the marine line to really shine up some of the horizontal surfaces, they didn't really gloss up like I wanted it to, but then again I never had polished Gel-coat before. Over all the customer was happy and we will be detailing every year.
