  • should i use m205 on polishing pad then move on to m205 on finsihing pad ( tough ques

Hi goodday mol members i am trying my best to polish black car to try get for maximum gloss and shine from black car. I would to find out whether the below step i state is it worth the extra work as i already have a swirl free finish from m205 on polishing pad . This is the steps that i have completed a m105 compounding step with w5000. I would like to find from experienced member / and members who try before the below method to try get for maximum gloss and shine from black car. Thank in advance hope to hear advise. Cheers Happy Detailing

1)should i use m205 on polishing pad then move on to m205 on finishing pad?
    2) is this extra step ( M205 on finishing pad) which i have gain swirl free finish to go to m205 on finishing pad worth the extra effort or is it no different will be made?

Test spot my friend. Even so, this last step would probably be more for your own sanity than anything else. Do it and get it out of your system

I assume you used M105 with rotary buffer/ W5000 wool pad and followed up with M205 to remove any side defects left by compounding step.

Because M105/ W5000 is a pretty aggressive combo it's very common to follow like this:
      1. M205/ rotary buffer/ polishing pad - swirl/ haze removal
      2. M205/ D/A polisher/ finishing pad - final gloss
      3. Wax/ Protection - D/A, hand.

As Alex said above, if you're not sure it's worth that extra effort on your paint system - do a test spot to see if the results meet your expactations.

It depends... Does your initial M105 step leave the finished hazed? As Greg points out, the M105 via the W5000 wool pad is a very aggressive approach so you're more than likely to have micro-marring in the finish.

I would first try using the M205 via the black finishing pad. If the haze goes away and your paint finish comes out clear and wet-looking then that's the only step you have to take. The M205 has some abrasives to give you some cut even with a finishing pad. You can then go to your LSP step afterwards. If this doesn't completely remove the haze then you can apply the M205 with the polishing pad to remove the haze and then apply M205 with the finishing pad to polish the paint to perfection.

          Agreed.

So you've finished M105/W5000 compounding step, so we can only assume you have at least some level of hologram/rotary swirl left from this process, and that's fine. Depending on how the paint responds you might be able to remove them completely with M205/finishing foam pad. If not, step up to M205/polishing foam pad. Which brings up the big question: if I needed polishing foam to remove any light hologram/rotary swirl with M205 will I then see further improvement by finishing with M205/finishing foam. The answer is a resounding "maybe". It all depends on how the paint responds, your skill with the buffer, and your expectations. So the test spot is called for, as is so often the case.

Now, if we needed M205/polishing foam to remove the marks left by M105/W5000, using perhaps 1200 rpm on the buffer, we would be inclined to see whether M205/finishing foam at 1000 rpm or even less did to further enhance the finish. But then we lean pretty hard on the "Car Crazy" side of this game and we like to see how far we can push things. On some cars it will make a difference, on others not so much. But you won't know until you try. Just do a test spot though - no sense in doing the whole car if you can't tell the difference.

using a finesse pad with 205 on the last 2-3 passes let up om the pressure this will let you jewel the paint a bit more.
