  • Are quick detailers dead?

It seems like with waterless washes getting more popular that quick detailers are no longer needed.

    Does anyone else see this?
I am really not seeing advantages to a quick detailer over a waterless wash.

    I know what you mean.

    Perhaps just a price advantage..

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

A Detail spray always has a place.
WW is over kill and more expensive when you just want to remove a little dust or water spots.
Also don't forget lots of people use it for claying.

I would have to agree that they are losing some appeal. From my calculations a Waterless Wash is WAY cheaper than a Quick Detailer. A gallon of RFEW could make 129 gallons of waterless wash (at the strong dilution ratio) for $40, or $0.31 a gallon. The equivalent in Meguiars Detailer Line would be Last Touch, which is $25 a gallon. Even if you diluted it to a 1:1 ratio (which is only recommended when using it as a clay lube) it's still $12.50 a gallon.

Even though I loved Last Touch, I had to abandon it when RFEW came out; I just couldn't ignore those savings.

I picked up a 32oz bottle of ONR today for $15.
a 1/2oz or even less of ONR in a spray bottle and its a quick detailer at a price that a quick detailer cant even dream of.

ONR can be used for claying.

RFEW at 128:1 is all I use a clay lube now too, price can't be beat, especially not by a Quick Detailer

Nope, I don't think so... Even with waterless car washes (UWWA, 3D waterless, ONR), even if they can be bought in gallons and therefore more cost effective, they require more Microfibers and product usage especially if the car is just a bit dirtier. Quick detailers, even if they are "limited" to dust removal or if the person is skilled, light dirt removal, requires just a few mists vs. waterless washes that occasionally require heavier sprays/product to saturate the dirt and minimize scratching. And besides, quick detailers can be bought in gallons as well. But I am slowly becoming a fan of waterless washes, at the moment I am still a bit weary of inflicting scratches and the amount of product required... I just love the fact that I can clean a car without getting as dirty as I normally do with a conventional car wash

IMHO, I think QDs are dead. WW concentrates are so cheap now and they act like QD on steroids. So why not use a WW instead?

Doesn't your bottle explode when you leave it in the trunk? I want to leave mine in the car but it expands like crazy. And I'm not even sure if it's good for the product.

                      Yup +1

Selecting the CORRECT WW concentrate can be used for 4 products [possibly more] : WW, Clay Lube, QD, Water Conditioner

                        Re: Are quick detailers dead?

I keep a bottle of GC QD and GC QW in the trunk of a black car in the hot South and haven't had problems.

Anyway, I depend on QD for cleaning and polishing, Classic QD for claying, and QD works in conjunction with the other Meg's products I'm using, like the QW I also depend on. I would not want anything stronger or harsher or more concentrated than QD. No experience with WW products, but it sounds like the same thing as QD with a different name, except a WW may not work with my Gold Class setup and might create more work to keep the car show car clean.

                          Re: Are quick detailers dead?

I think the bigger picture is that most people buying a "plain" QD will be the guy roaming a Walmart/ bigbox stores, so perhaps "dead" in our lil MOL world....not so in the "regular" world.
Pretty sure QDs still sells...just remember as large as this MOL community is...we're really just a small segment in the grand scheme of things.

Btw...I usually use a small cooler lunch bag to shuttle my bird bomb kit, usually a bottle of UWWA and a bunch of MF towels.
I leave this kit by the front door and grab it when I put on my shoes

                            This is exactly my thought.
Jack of all trades, less cost, less inventory, better than a quick detailer

Never had a problem here. I keep everything in the back of my Explorer (although I kinda have to since I use it everyday). I've never had an issue, however it doesn't get nearly as hot up here in Seattle as it does down there.

On the other side of the equation, I do have to worry about stuff freezing overnight in the middle of winter.
