  • Tell me about... #9

So, what is it? What situations are best for #9? Is this a redheaded stepchild now? When would a car guy think, "THIS situation is why Meguiar's made #9!!!!!!"

It's for the red Miata, a 1997 with single stage paint. And there's not a lot of paint left on this car, seriously.

My car has about a year and a half of swirl buildup. For me, that means it looks like the "after" shots in a lot of pictures, but since that's where it is, I figure I can get all those swirls knocked down one more level. But I'm not going to break out the #83; it's too strong. My initial thought is Menzerna Final Polish, but I'm almost out of it, and I don't want to buy more stuff. I know I have things on the shelf that will work; among the Meguiar's products available are (deep breath)....

Deep Crystal Body Scrub, Deep Crystal Step 1, Gold Class Paint Cleaner, Medallion Paint Cleaner, #6, ColorX, Deep Crystal Cleaner Wax (paste & liquid), #9, #80, #82, #2, ScratchX ( I have enough ScratchX to drown a cat), #83 #84 and #85, #1... I can work by hand, rotary, or cyclo.

I'm sure one of those can take off those swirls without taking off too much paint. I'm thinking, #9, because the finish is OK, nice and smooth and glossy except for the swirls.

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

    Hi Tom,

My own personal experience with Miata's with single stage paints has shown me that these paints are very soft. This means being extra careful about product choice for removing defects. Soft paints mean you can use very gentle products to remove below surface defects because the paint is easily abraded and removed. So for light swirls as you describe, M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 is an excellent choice and in keeping with Meguiar's philosophy,
