  • What pads to use for 1-2-3 step system?

Since I placed an order for a polisher, what pads should I use for the Meguiars 1-2-3 step system? Thanks!

When i used the 3-step this is what I did...

    Cleaner #1 - Polishing pad
    Polish #2 - Polishing pad
    Wax #3 - Finishing pad

What gb387 has suggested is exactly correct in my opinion.

Thats the way I would do it too.

If you're using a non-abrasive polish for step 2 (#81, for example) would it be acceptable to use a finishing pad for that step as well?

Cam generally use a finishing pad for non abrasive polishes. Always had good results this way. Not sure if its the RIGHT way but its how I do it.

I would assume that if you are using a non abrasive polish (#81, #7...) that you would want to use the finishing pad. My reasoning that the product is not designed to be abrasive so I would not want to use an abrasive pad.

                Hey,

Well it depends on the finish.

Most of the time, if using the following, I would:

                a cleaner: W-8006 Polishing Pad
a polish: Either W-8006 or W-9006 Finishing Pad
                a glaze: Always a W-9006 Finishing Pad
                a wax/sealant: the W-9006 Finishing Pad

At the glaze and sealant/wax stages, you do not want a pad that has cut to it. You want to use the least aggressive method as possible to apply the product in order to allow the product to do its job. Moreover, at the latter stages, you have to be really careful not to re-introduce marring back into the surface.

If you're removing the wax with a PC, you might want to try a mf bonnet on the 8006 (or even 7006) at setting 4 (7424)...some say the 9006 is too soft behind the bonnet...

In the above would you consider the #7, #81 and DC Step 2 polishes to be "glazes" per say and in that case only use a finishing pad (w/ the PC), not the polishing pad?

                    Thanks Tim!

Generally speaking, it is okay to use the term glaze and pure polish interchangeably when referring to Meguiar's paint polishing products.

                        Hey Inzane,

Yes, when I refer to glazes(Pure Polishes), I would use a W-9006 Finishing Pad.
