  • Smooth surface clay

Well this past weekend I was going to detail my 1988 mustang. Its got a pretty new paint job on it probably 3-4 years old. So anyway ever since I bought the car, "I bought it after it had been painted and all that stuff", it has had a real rough gritty finish on all the horizontal surfaces. You could take your hand and rub it over it and feel the coarseness in the paint. I would wash it and my brush would make a noise kind of like sand paper rubbing back and forth on something. Very rough stuff whatever it was.

So anyway I was going to wax it this weekend. Like I said I dont know what was on it but its been on there forever. I asked the guy who paints my car accessories, he felt of it back after I had first got the car and he said that its dirt in the paint. So I just never thought anything else about it. So anyway right after I got done washing it, I thought about the clay kit I had in the garage I used on the civic the week before. So I broke out the clay, and the quik detail and started rubbing in one spot right next to the windshield. A couple passes and the roughness was gone. So needless to say I did all the horizontal spots and im pretty sure its all gone now. Woohoo.
Three dancing bananas for that one.
Do you guys have any clue what it might have been that was on there?? The car is white and as I was claying the quik detailer would turn yellow, some of it was on there really good and took maybe 15-20 passes to get it off. It finally came off though. What do you guys think? Oh also like I said it wasnt just spots, anything that was horizontal had it completely covered over all of it. So after I clayed it, I broke out the cleaner/wax that came with the clay kit and waxed it. Thats pretty good wax make it look nice and shiny.
Meguiars thanks for the awesome products.

Overspray was the only thing I could think of. I just couldnt believe that it removed all of it though. This is truly a testament to megiuars products.
