Nxt 2.0 wax or sealent?

Just want to know, is Nxt 2.0 a wax or a sealant? I've seen it advertised as a wax and also placed the sealant section of online dealers. The reason I'm asking is, if it is a sealant, would/should you apply a coat of wax over it? I really like the shine of the nxt 2.0 when putting it on my blk '01 vette, but if I let it cure over night and add a layer of carnuba would it add depth? I have a bottle of the Megs quick wax that I could put on, would that add anything to the finish? Just curious. Thanks.

The truth is that they like to call a protective coating either a 'wax' or 'sealant' to help differentiate between a wax that has carnauba wax in it vs something that is 100% artificially made. NXT would fall under the sealant in that it is an artificially made protective coating, but around here, we just call it wax because in the end, that is all it is. It's like the age old classic term of 'what do you call "soda"'. Some people call all soda 'coke', others 'soda', and some others 'pop'. There is no right or wrong answer here

You also asked about if Quik Wax will do anything for you. My best piece of advice is to try it! Do a side by side comparison between part of the hood with Quik Wax on top of NXT, and the other side with just NXT. If you like the results with Quik Wax, go a head and use it! If not, than you will be in the same category as me and claim that there really is no benefit from 'topping' waxes off', rather the only important thing is to make sure your car is nicely protected.

The rule of thumb is to get the car to look the way you want it BEFORE you wax, and have the wax protect that shine and make the car easier to maintain.

You can easily get caught between different companies terms, since there is no industry standard.

Meguiar's tends to use those terms a bit interchangeably as well, which may help confuse some new folks. For instance, #21 Synthetic Sealant is purely synthetic, while Nxt 2.0 Wax is purely synthetic as well.

Meguiar's recommends two thin coats of any wax or sealant for best coverage, which lends itself too best looks and protection. Some people see a difference by using a sealant topped with a wax, some dont. The only benefit is in your own eyes, nothing performance wise. So the test spots/panels recommended above are best if you want to try it.

Thanks for the help. I kinda of figured it was more of a wax due to the durability, but since there doesn't seem to be an industry standard on how to label these kind of things it can get a bit confusing.

If we step outside of the "Forum World" where everyone trends towards being very specific or AR about products and terms describing products and consider the majority of people in the world don't hang out on detailing discussion forums then it's easier to understand why Meguiar's uses the word "wax" on the label.

Consider the average person goes to an auto parts store and looks for a car wash and a car wax so on Saturday they can wash and wax their car, then from a marketing point of view it makes sense to label a car wash with the words car wash and a car wax with at least the word "wax" on the label so that when a typical consumer is scanning the usually confusing and overly populated wax shelves at their local auto parts store they can locate, lock in and reach for with their hand the product they're looking for, a car wash and a car wax.

You don't want to confuse people at the retail level. While most serious enthusiast understand the difference between a car wax and a paint sealant the average person doesn't get that deep, so it's better to keep things KISS, Keep it Simple Simon.

NXT Tech Wax is made from all synthetic or man-made products, there are not natural waxes like Carnauba in this formula so most serious enthusiasts would classify this as a paint sealant, not a car wax. But to keep things simple and to convey the idea quickly and simply to someone scanning the shelves for a car wax, NXT is labeled NXT Tech Wax.

Regardless of the name on the label, it's real simple to figure out what any product us using Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle. Simply take any product and figure out which step it performs in the 5-Step Paint Care Cycle. In the example of NXT Tech Wax and for example M21 Synthetic Sealant, they both fit into Step 4 Protection, as does Turtle Wax, Nu-Finish, Rain Dance, Simonize, Blue Coral, etc. waxes.

That is some great info,Thanks Mike, KISS is a great rule to follow.
1layer of NXT 2.0 has lasted me 4 months on a DD that is garaged at night and just shy of 3 months on a DD that is outside 24/7 and driven 350 miles a week. Both cars get dusted nightly and a spritz of UQD mid week, washed 1x a week sometimes 1x every other week. Both cars just were topped with NXT spray wax last weekend (wish for NXT 2.0 spray wax).

What sealants or waxes have you found that are filling in your swirls and scratches that are lasting a long time?

Filling in swirls and scratches also called masking is a temporary fix, what Meguiar's has been teaching people for over 100 years is how to remove them, not mask them.
