M80 + M83 or swirlX + ultimate compound?

Hi people its been a really long time since I've posted here on meguiars online. But I hope you guys are able to help me decide. I'm about to invest in a G220 with the new meguiar's 2.0 pads and I was almost set on getting M80 and M83. Then I just had to look in 2009 new products range which now has got me interested. My understanding is that the new products should save a considerable amount of time when correcting paint as the product isn't diminishing abrasive technology which would be a real plus. However I own the meguiars PC detailing dvd and am pretty confident (in theory ) in the application technique for M80 and M83. I'm not quite sure what technique to use for these new products.

Should I go for M80 + M83 or swirlX + ultimate compound or simply go for both?

Should I also consider 105 + 205?

Also is wax removal best done with a plush microfibre cloth or with ultmate bonnet?

Haha! You've just asked the $10,000,000 question, and unfortuntely no one is going to be able to give you a definitive answer. No one knows in advance which combination of products will be right for you and the different cars you will be polishing. Each paint system is different. You pays your money and takes your choice.

I'm sort of in the same predicament as you. Last summer I bought a bottle each of M80 and M83. I didn't have an opportunity to use them extensively, but they seemed to work fine. However, after reading everything about the new products and Meguiar's super micro-abrasive technology, I decided a couple of weeks ago to go ahead and get myself a bottle of M205 and SwirlX. I intend to try out these two products as my basic polishing combo. If it turns out that I need a more aggressive polish, then I will run down to the store and get myself a bottle of Ultimate Compound, too; but given the condition of my cars, I do not anticipate I will need to do any compounding. If I don't get the results I want from M205/SwirlX, I will try M80/M83 again and compare.

I have been experimenting with many Mequires products over the last year or so.(My wife says way too many).
I have a honda del sol which was painted black about 9 months ago. Anyway after experimenting with M80, M83, ScratchX, SwirlX, Ultimate compound, and just about everything else Maquires has I have found that the combination of M105 followed by M205 applied with a G110,and then topped with two coats of NXT by hand gives me the best, and longest lasting finish of any combo I have tried.
I just love M205, it is so easy to work with and just makes black look so rich it is hard to discribe.

Can't beat the above Meguiar's Tag Team for consistent professional results on just about any kind of paint system.

Just to note, everything shown in the DVD for using M80 applies to any other product you would use to remove swirls with a DA Polisher on any kind of paint. The techniques are universal with the exception of working ScratchX by hand as shown in the DVD, with our new SMAT products you don't have to use as much pressure nor as many applications to get better results faster. You still do as demonstrated, that is spread the product out over the area you're going to work and then work the product for about a minute and wipe off immediately after working the product. No need to let anything except waxes dry.

As for removing wax, machine or hand will work, personal preference. By using a machine you have a pad with equal pressure over the entire surface, with your hand you tend to have pressure points via your finger tips but a GREAT practice is to ALWAYS fold your microfiber 4-ways to provide a thickness of cloth which provides cushion and helps spread the pressure of your hand out over the cloth.

Mike thanks for clearing up the application method for the new products. I was uncertain at first but that has reassured me. I think i will try 105 and 205 as a combination however I am wondering whether I should try something less aggressive first such as swirlX and 205 as Al mentioned.

I think i will also grab some M80 and M83. I guess i'l do 2 test spots and see which looks better to my eyes.

I suppose I should mention the first car to recieve a shot at this, is my wife's 98 Toyota Corolla SR which is black. A lot of people seem to swear by nxt wax2.0 doing wonders for black paint, how does that compare to say #21 in terms of looks?

The only difference really is M21 is available by the gallon and can be applied with a rotary buffer.

Thanks tyler, in addition i guess 21 is also bodyshop safe. I probably will go for #21 gallon as I have found a good deal.

Man I just realised i cant seem to find #205 anywhere in UK yet.

Of the new line of paint correction products I can only seem to find #105, ultimate compound and swirlX.

Which combination would be the best to experiment with?

Would 105 followed by M80 be a good choice?

Man I just realised i cant seem to find #205 anywhere in UK yet.

IDK if you would necessarily call it bodyshop safe in that a freshly painted car shouldn't have wax applied for a minimum of 30 and up to 90 days, nor any wax when going through the phases of body work

As for what to go with? Use the least aggressive first. In that lineup of products, you are looking at M80 --> SwirlX --> Ultimate Compound --> M105. If you ended up having to use say Ultimate Compound to get your deepest defects out but have some minor marring because of it, you will need to move up to M80 or maybe SwirlX to get that marring out. Just a system you have to figure out for each paint system.
