well you have to remover the rust or treat it
So sand and touch up with paint
Or get some Rustolium or Loctite
I've used both and work fine
Here's a pic of the Loctite from their site:
      Rust Treatments & Cleaners
      Rust Treatments
      Rust Treatments
      Extend® Rust Converter (Neutralizer)
      Naval Jelly® Rust Dissolver

Re: How to cover rock chips with rust ?

I have those and have been fixing them as soon as I find them as they can very easily get out of hand.

Since those spots are so small, it is hard to sand out the rust without damaging the surrounding paint. Instead, if there is no loose rust in the spot, I hit it with a rust converter using a microbrush. This actually neutralizes the rust and transforms it into a paintable base (according to the bottle). Then, once dry, you can handle it as a normal paint chip.

If there is any loose rust in the spot or loose paint around it, you need to get it out as best as you can. To do this, I use a very fine file or dental pick to get all the loose stuff out, getting down to the bare metal as best as I can, and then use the above procedure.

It has worked so far for me, but no long term results yet as only started doing this last fall. So far no spots came back.

              Pretty much.

Looking at your photos, here's a step by step of what I would do. I'd try to find a diamond needle file or similar to clean out the rust. I can see some accumulation in the top one in the photo, and possible loose paint in the lower. Be very careful, you can easily make them worse, a light touch is best. I tried a glass pen, but they are too bulky for chips, making a big mess.

Since you are in Canada, go to Canadian Tire and get some Rust Check Rust Converter and apply that, but only to the chip, not the surrounding paint. Once dry, use touch up paint, follow any of the links here on how to best do that. Alternatively, try Dr. Colorchip, I got some and am pretty happy with the results so far. Fixing these is not a fast process, especially if you want to do it well.

Ty for good responses guys, I could not get any specific answers on my car frum. here's what I went out and bought. [

I will go about it this way, wash, then claybar, then rust check thingie, the scrape it a little with a needle cuz it's tiny, then touch up paint, touch up clear coat and a coat of wax fter that. If u think I should change a step or two lemme know, would really appreciate suggestions.

Try using a spot sanding pen like this one from 3M

3M Spot Sanding Pens powerful glass fibers thoroughly clean each corner, crevice and pocket, removing rust, wax and dirt

I saw this one on Amazon.com, but if you google a search you should be able to find more.

That's the pen I tried. Not sure if they come in different sizes, but mine was too big to get just the middle of the chip, and scratched up the paint around it as well. Made a bigger spot to cover up than I originally planned. Also be very careful with them, as the glass splinters can really cause problems if they get embedded in the skin/eyes. Follow the directions 110% on these....

Not sure how I missed this last night. That is the stuff I use, seems to work well. Your process sounds almost right. After washing and claybar, I'd scrape the loose rust out first (if there is any), then hit it with the rust converter. This will help ensure that all the rust gets coated with the converter. The last thing you want is a small pocket of untreated rust left under your touch up paint, it will simply come back again with a vengeance. I've had 3 cars over the years literally rust out from under me, so have learned a few tricks from what I did wrong with those.

I've never seen that spot sanding pen before. We get 3M products here, though. I've always used small bits of sandpaper on matchsticks.
