  • Shelf Life of Scratch X

What is the shelf life of Scratch X? I bought some when it first hit the market. Do I need to replace it? It still works but I wonder since it is relatively old maybe it has lost some effectiveness. It has been kept in a heated garage and still has the original consistency which is on the thick side like #83.

Meguiar's products will easily have a 3-5 year shelf life as long as they do not freeze. I've seen product much, much older that still perform like the day they were poured into the bottle.

Thanks for the quick answer. Looks like it's still OK then. It never did freeze. How long has Scratch X been around, since '99?

I am quite curious what freezing does to the products. I put a Christmas list togather of some Meguiars products. I know that at least a few of the items (#80, #20, & #16) will need to be shipped in and will probably freeze in shipping. Will these products now be useless?

That's a good question and a legitimate concern. It's also a question that came up just the other day ago. I'll have one of our Customer Care Hotline Representatives look into this and see what the deal is.

When products are allowed to freeze the consistency of the formula may not be the same when it melts again. It may separate or become sort of clumpy. It's similar to letting ice cream melt and then trying to refreeze it. It will not be as consistent as before. It doesn't happen every single time but does occur more often in waxes than anything. If your product freezes, check the consistency of it after it melts. If it looks fine, test the product on a small area to see if performs as it normally should. By that I mean check to see if it still spreads evenly, and smoothly, and hazes in the time frame that was intended.

The products should be fine during the shipping process since they will be packaged and continuously moved along to it's destination. If you do have a problem with your order, just give us a call at 1-800-545-3321 and we'll take care of it. Just make sure that you store your products in a room temperature environment (ie indoor cupboard), and move them indoors if it gets very cold during the winter time.

Two days ago, I found a bottle of liquid Gold Class that I purchaed bach in 1995. I appplied a coat to some wood furniture and after wiping it off, and it gave a very good shine!
