  • Gold Class Endurance High Gloss Tire Gel & Brown Tires

So I used the Gold Class Endurance High Gloss Tire Gel last week. It has rained pretty much every day since then. Today everything is dry and my tires are brown. They were not brown before. I applied it using a terry cloth towel.

    Did I do something wrong?

you said it has rained every day for the past week ? thats most likely the issue. while gold class endurance has great longevity when it comes to rain exposure and what not, but your car would be more extreme. i have applied gold class endurance high gloss and it lasted like 2 or 3 weeks, and it only rained about two times during that time. but one time i washed my car and applied the gel, and it rain for 3 days straight (very hard rain, was actually a storm). and when it was all over, all the dressing was gone. and that was understandable. the tire was left dry and brown. the antiozanants in the tire were exposed and thats what you are seeing thats causing the browning..how to get rid of it ? scrub your tire with a hard bristle brush and some car wash soap or an all purpose cleaner, and re-apply.

I read it somewhere is this forum, that it's NORMAL when tires turn brown. They are only trying to protect themselves.

That is true. It is the antiozanants in the tire that are meant to be the protection. This is whay tires are black and not the same color as your paint for instance. As the tire rolls, the antiozanant is pushed to the outside of the tire and the brown color is a by product of its usage. We apply tire protectant because we either do not like the look of the tire the way it is, or want to protect in some different way. In any case, the browning is totally understandable.

On a side story, I once used Armor-All on my tires. A few days later, my tires were disgustingly brown. Mind you, we had no rain in these few days. I am not making any assumptions or statements but I have heard similar stories regarding Armor-All.

To get the maximum benefit of any tire dressing you must thoroughly clean the tires first. The brown color is called "bloom" and it needs to be removed once in a while.
          Got this from Properautocare.com........
          "Why are Tires Black?

Left alone, tires dry out, discolor and eventually crack and split. “Dry rot” is a multi-million dollar problem for RVers, trailer boaters and owners of classic cars that are parked for extended periods.

The major factor degrading tires and other synthetic and rubber products is ozone, an odorless gas which is part of the air we breath. When combined with ultraviolet light (the invisible part of sunlight) a reaction occurs that attacks the tire polymer.

To protect against ozone and UV damage, a stabilizer molecule called a “competitive absorber” is blended with the tire polymer. Competitive absorbers work by capturing and absorbing UV radiation and converting it to heat which is dissipated harmlessly. All tire manufacturers use the same competitive absorber, carbon black. This is why all tires are black...why tires are not available in designer colors.

These absorbers are sacrificial; they expend themselves in performing their function of changing UV to heat. As carbon black loses it’s ability to perform, it turns gray. This is one reason why black tires discolor as they age.

To protect from further ozone damage, tire manufacturers add a wax compound to their formulas. Tires flex when they are in motion, causing the wax molecules to migrate to the surface. This forms a protective barrier between the air (ozone and oxygen) and the tire polymer. In the tire trade this is called “blooming”.

When tires are parked for extended periods, blooming does not occur and ozone starts attacking the polymer. With UV light and ozone working in concert, the degradation is accelerated, resulting in drying, discoloration and cracking."

Switch to a water based dressing. When you clean your tires, there will be much less brown gunk coming off of them

What did you use to clean the tires prior to applying the dressing?
