NXT Tech Wax 2.0 Help

Last two times I have waxed using my 110 D/A and the NXT Tech Wax I have been able to see the polisher marks on the hood of the car the next morning. Both cars were waxed in my garage at night so it is difficult to really see the finish until it is out in the daylight. I had the D/A set on 3 and applied a thin coat with a meg's finishing soft buff pad. The wipe off w/SS microfiber went fine. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Also, what is the best way to remove the polisher marks (they almost resemble the look of the car after I finished applying the wax) on my hood? The only area I am finding this is on the hood. I used gold class liquid up till now and never had this issue.

If you're waxing just after sunset you may well be encountering higher humidity and cooler temps. Even here in Southern California during our Thursday Night Open Garage sessions we sometimes see NXT Tech Wax 2.0 taking longer to dry when ambient conditions change in that direction. NXT will generally take a bit longer to dry than Gold Class will, so if you're using it exactly the same way it's probably just not fully dry.

After applying a thin coat to the entire vehicle it should take about 15 to 20 minutes to dry fully. But that time frame can be extended by quite a bit if temps drop below 60 - 65F or so, or the humidity starts to rise. Combine the two and the time frame extends a bit more.

The good news is that even if you let NXT sit on the paint for a couple of hours it will still wipe off with almost no effort at all. Now, you shouldn't ever have to wait that long, and we are not advocating that you do - we're just making the paint that even a long drying time will not make the product difficult to remove. A properly thin coat is important, however.

One other thing to consider is the overall condition of the paint. Does it need to be clayed (does the surface feel at all rough to the touch)? Bonded surface contaminants build up over time and will compromise not only the life of any wax, but how easily it goes on and wipes off too.

Thank you for the advise. It may be that I got caught by the temp and humidity. Is this more likely to happen on the hood (flat horizontal surface) than on the roof decklid and sides of the car. Both times temps were cool as I was working at night in Michigan in the "spring" so it could have been in the 60's in the garage easily. The car I am working on is a daily driver 04 Grand Prix (black), the paint is smooth, last fall it got a good 105/205/7/m16 treatment prior to winter driving, maintained over the winter with ONR and UQW. Just wanted to put a quick wax on it before I really got into in the summer.

What is the best way to get rid of the marks, 205 then rewax?

A cleaner wax should get rid of the marks pretty easily, and it dries quickly too. A12 Cleaner Wax, ColorX, heck even a coat of Gold Class will most likely take care of it.

Those horizontal surfaces are going to be more susceptible at first since any humidity at all is going to settle and cling there first. You've probably seen dew begin to settle in very, very small amounts on these surfaces when a car is sitting out and night starts to fall. But even before you can actually see it, the beginnings of it are already there, and always see it first on the horizontal surfaces.

But even before you can actually see it, the beginnings of it are already there, and always see it first on the horizontal surfaces.

A lot of times, when the dew does start to settle on my car, it looks like it was applied by a buffer because it settles in the "pattern" left by the machine when I applied the wax. It always disappears when the dew dries though.

Looks like cleaner wax by hand took care of it. Just found it a bit frustrating to see the pattern after waxing it. Probably not a big deal, the hood is getting resprayed in a few weeks under warranty due to some bonding issues from previous body work. So it will be a while before I wax again.
