sI have a couple of assorted brand liquid and paste car waxes that's been sitting in my garage for 10~11 years. Some are acquired around 8 years ago, some 3~4 years ago.
The only ones that smell bad are the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax (in paste) and the Gold Class Clear Coast Paste Wax.
It's a very strong, ranchid, and acidic smell that stings your nostrils when you take a close whiff at it.
Anyway, I tried the Gold Class wax yesterday. Put a coat on my black benz and it's easy on easy off as always.
The smell isn't obvious if you keep your distance though. Odd..
Just wondering if anybody's had the same experience as I had. From what little info I was able to dig up with google, the ranchid smell is apparently a sign of the wax gone bad.
I got worried and opened all my stock of car waxes today. Since none of my other waxes gave off any unusual smells, i'm assuming they're still all good. I have some Armorall, Blue Coral, Rain-X, and Eagle One branded carnauba paste waxes that dates much earlier than the Meguiars but they all seemed fine. No discoloration, no separation, and the smell is the same as the day I opened them ages ago.
Today I tried a turtle wax branded carnauba wax paste that I bought 10 years ago. It still applies smooth and wiped off easily.
I know the shelf life is supposedly 3~5 years for car waxes. But is that really the case?
