  • Ultimate vs. NXT 2.0 Paste Wax Comparison?

    Hello all.

I have been using Meguiar's NXT 2.0 paste wax on my car for the last few years. I just ordered a container of the new Ultimate paste wax. Has there been a comparison made of these two waxes? What can I look forward to seeing from the Ultimate wax that I couldn't from NXT 2.0? Which one is better at protecting the clear coat finish of my car? Which one beads water better? Where do these 2 waxes rank in Meguiar's family of waxes?

I'd appreciate any answers to these questions. Thanks!

Ultimate wax has been said to give better results on dark colored cars. I think you won't notice much difference between Ultimate wax and NXT 2.0. I've used both, I like UW better though because it does seem to apply on and off a bit easier, beads water a bit more and also lasts the longest. I only use Ultimate Wax paste now.

      Nick, thanks for the info.

Has anybody else used both? I'd love to hear more discoveries.

Ultimate wax is Meguiar's most advanced wax. It's more durable and repels water more because of its hydrophobic polymer technology. In terms of looks, I like using NXT on lighter colored cars eapecially metallics. I prefer using Ultimate on darker colored cars especially non metallics.

I've completely switched to Ultimate paste wax now mainly because of the hydrophobic effect it gives the paint. It's just amazing how much water it repels. Moreover, it's said to be more durable as well.

Re: Ultimate vs. NXT 2.0 Paste Wax Comparison?

Ultimate Wax is definitely our longest lasting and best protecting wax. The liquid version will not stain plastic trim but the paste can do so, so keep that in mind. Differences in appearance between this and NXT or anything are going to be highly subjective and preferences will be a very personal thing.

Marc's observations are spot on, and from purely personal experience I can tell you that UW paste is my new favorite wax, especially on darker colors and most notably on darker metallics.

How is the Ultimate Wax compared to M 16? Thinking lasting and look.
And I could not see the NXT 2.0 in the 2012 catalog, is the NXT 2.0 phasing out?

That's interesting Michael, I assume there is a specific reason this is the case. Can you elaborate?

Not sure in this case but, to make a paste, most manufacturers employ fillers, usually talc or clay, to give the body a paste needs. These fillers stain trim.

I've used both a fair amount, and they are similar, but UW lasts considerably longer so that's my pick.

I find NXT looks 'wetter' and makes the clearcoat look thicker, whereas, UW looks very reflective and deepens dark colours considerably.

What difference would the darkness of the color have to do with the wax? And other than not staining trim, why is the liquid version better than the paste?

                        Hi All,

Does this mean that UW is not doing its full potential on a silver metallic car? If the answer is yes, what would be the best match on the color?

                        Thanks.

No, not at all. UW is said to bring out the best in darker colours (and even that is only subjective) but that doesn't mean it won't still look great on silver. Or that you'll even notice a difference in looks between your current wax and UW on silver.

In any case, UW is Meguiar's most durable wax regardless of the colour of your car...

The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Got it Dave, thanks very much for the info. I always thought that everything that stated "makes your black cars blacker" won't go well on silver/ other colors, guess I was wrong
