Back when we sold it and even today, more cars have body panels made from sheet metal than non-metal materials.

Yeah that's true Mike although Aluminium is getting very popular over here especially for the bonnet (hood)...........so a duel would be good

We are finding more vehicles with plastic, aluminum and other non-steel body panels but most are steel.

I would say so since where I work paid close to $1000 for one of these.
