  • More SOCAL driving Q's from a Canadian

    Hi everyone.

Im in La Jolla now, and on wed morning will be heading to LA to hit Disneyland. The park opens at 10:00. When should I leave La Jolla to spend the day at the park?

Next question, what time do I leave the park (and my wife and son) to get to Meguiars for the Wed. Night Garage. I understand traffic can be quite...frustrating (is that G-rated enough?)

    Any help would be appreciated.

PS when I signed up for wed night, I said I didn't want to do anything to my rental car, that has changed. There are a couple of spots that I'd like to try Sratch-X on (never used it) and the tires and glass need detailing---BADLY.

    welcome to Cali.
from La Jolla to Disneyland, 90min - 2hrs on the 5 freeway going North. you never know what kind of traffic you hit here.
from Disneyland to Meguiar's wed. night. that doesn't leave you much time to spend at Disney.
well, its probably 30-45 minutes to their garage.
it also depends on what route you take. maybe some of the guys who live in OC can direct you.
maybe you don't have to be there exactly at 5pm as its from 5-10.
    good luck!

I’m not familiar with North San Diego’s morning commute but my guess is it’s not too much fun.

10:00 is after the tail end of OC’s rush hour but since you’ll be heading straight through “The Orange Crush” your ingress to Anaheim (which by the way, is nowhere near LA despite what some !#@^ baseball team owners might believe) will in all likelihood ****.

All in all, it’s wise to expect the higher end of the drive time.

You might consider getting a really early start and doing breakfast near the park.

I wish I could tell you exactly what that stretch of I-5 from Disneyland to the 55 will be like during the afternoon rush but I haven’t driven it lately (I always use surface streets when I’m down there in the afternoon). At least the 55 from the I-5 interchange to Meguiar’s offramp (Macarthur) is a piece of cake.

I live within earshot of Disneyland's nightly fireworks (can see 'em too from the roof) so I can safely say that the trip to Meguiar's garage is about 20-30 minutes via the Southbound 5/Southbound 55.

Being that this is SoCal there is an off chance you could make the trip in 15 minutes, but then again some moron could be tailgating in their SUV then look down at their cellphone and half-caff nonfat soy latte and not notice the sports car in front of them stop suddenly. If that happens it'll take you an hour and a half to get around the resulting mess.
